Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie Boosts Nova Scotia Economy

Nearly 900 cyclists took part in the 2nd Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie in Nova Scotia. Gran Fondo means big ride in Italian. Long popular in Europe, they have become a trend in North America. The Baie Sainte-Marie event was the first in the province to embrace this new trend. 

It's been a hit with participation more then doubling in the second year to almost 900 riders, making it the largest Gran Fondo east of Quebec. There were shorter distances of 35 kilometres and 67 kilometres for cyclists to ride, but the majority of participants did the full 117 kilometres.

The Muur of Geraardsbergen was decisive climb as Terpstra escaped from the other GC-favourites and finished second in the stage, but it was enough for the overall.

With 50 km to go Bob Jungels attacked, taking team mate Terpstra. Naesen, Boasson Hagen, Jungels and Sütterlin followed.

In the Golden Kilometre, Terpstra took all 3 x 3 seconds time bonuses.

Speaking in his own podcast about the pending federal whistleblower lawsuit against him, Lance Armstrong says that if the court rules against him, he could be “out on the street.”

Armstrong has already paid out lawsuits against him, including with The Sunday Times (£1/€1.17 million) and SCA Promotions ($10/€8.9 million). 

He has already sold his home in Austin, Texas and is currently living in Aspen. Recently his Apsen home's title was been claimed as capital if he fails to meet any outstanding payments to SCA Promotions.

The recent Rollfast Gran Fondo on was led out by Tour de France and former Discovery rider Tom Danielson along with legendary 7-11 rider Bob Roll for a Sub-Four hour effort.

The Fondo is paced the entire ride by the B.O.M.B Motorcycle club. A dozen sweet, custom and very loud Harley bikes lighting it up to ensure the lead two groups had the road, stopping traffic all 100 miles.

Riding along up front is the Zipp team, TOAD cycling, Team Phoenix, Heros, Team Nebo Ridge and a few other strong teams.

Maryland Celebrates Giordana Gran Fondo National Championship Series Finale

The National Championship rounded of a hugely a successful series of nine events across the whole of the U.S., with thousands of cyclists riding. Gran Fondo Maryland offered some of the longest timed sections and most challenging terrain of any Gran Fondo in the U.S!

Hundreds of cyclists lined up in historic Frederick, Maryland for the final opportunity to earn the title of fastest rider in the incredible Gran Fondo format.

The riders with the fastest combined time through each designated section in their category earned their Gran Fondo National Championship Jersey!

The Gila Monster Gran "Fondue" presented by Desert Springs Physical Therapy on October 8th 2016 is a long distance, timed cycling event that is fun yet offers a competitive edge for amateur and recreational cyclists. 

The course follows the iconic Tour of the Gila "Gila Monster" Road Race, covering some of the most stunning routes in New Mexico.

Enjoy the Gran Fondo which is 103 miles. Medio Fondo is 70 miles. Maybe you want a smaller challenge? lf so consider the Micro Fondo at 50 miles or the Nano Fondo which is 32 miles. Roving SAG wagons and rest stations will provide extra support to get you to that finish line.

UCI World Road Championships take place October 9-16 in Doha, Qatar.

17 riders confirmed to represent Team USA at the Men's and Women's Time Trial and Road Race.

Robin Carpenter recently won the Tour of Alberta and Stage 2 of the Tour of Utah.

Phinney who's riding the Eneco Tour with BMC Racing rode for Team USA at the Rio Olympics, will lead the squad with Megan Guarnier, who recently won the women's WorldTour, leading the ladies.

Daniel Abraham Gebru of the Netherlands came out victorious in the men’s road race C4-5 at the Paralympic games in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday after a very unfortunate crash in the finale took out the two riders contesting the win.

Jostling in the final meters of the race, an Australian and Ukrainian rider look set to take gold and silver but in a dramatic turn of events the two go crashing to the ground falling meters short from crossing the line.

The crash opened up the way for Gebru to take the win ahead of Brazil’s Lauro Cesar Chaman and Italy’s Andrea Tarlao who both finished 38-seconds back from the winner

Tom Zirbel breaks American Hour Record

Tom Zirbel smashed the American hour record today in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

In his final event as a professional cyclist, Zirbel powered around the velodrome to set a new standard of 53.037 kilometers (32.95 miles). Zirbel topped the almost two-decade old record of 51.505 kilometer set by Norm Alvis in 1997. In setting the American Hour record, Zirbel also set the second fastest hour record time in the world.
