Spring Classics Kick Off with Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne This Weekend

After two months of racing on open roads, riders will now face the challenging cobbled streets and steep climbs that define the Flanders region.

This year's Omloop Het Nieuwsblad promises to be an exhilarating showdown, featuring top contenders such as Wout van Aert, Tiesj Benoot, and Matteo Jorgenson, alongside last year’s champion Jan Tratnik. As the first major race of the Spring Classics, the event sets the stage for an intense battle among the elite cyclists.

Lidl-Trek's Jasper Stuyven, a past winner, is expected to employ a tactical escape strategy, reminiscent of his previous successes. Meanwhile, Nils Politt, who finished second last year, faces the challenge of overcoming Tratnik’s sprinting prowess, which may compel him to consider a solo breakaway if he hopes to secure victory.

Ineos Grenadiers will showcase a robust lineup, with Joshua Tarling and Ben Turner among those who could potentially make a significant impact. The team's strategy will be closely watched, as they navigate the complexities of the terrain and aim to maintain numbers at the finish line.

Bahrain Victorious brings Matej Mohoric, a versatile rider capable of winning any Spring Classic, though his strategy will hinge on timing and opportunity. At EF Education-Easypost, new signing Kasper Asgreen will join forces with previous winner Michael Valgren, alongside Marijn van den Berg and Madis Mikhels, who will serve as potential sprint options.

Tom Pidcock of Q36.5 stands out as a clear leader for his team, while Lotto Soudal's Arnaud De Lie will need to harness his explosive speed effectively, as he faces the pressure of delivering results amidst a competitive field.

Alpecin-Deceuninck’s Jasper Philipsen and Kaden Groves will be looking to secure their first win of the year, with Philipsen emerging as a strong candidate for both sprint and overall victory.

XDS-Astana enters the weekend as the form team of the season, with Davide Ballerini, a previous winner of the Omloop, and Alberto Bettiol, known for his ability to escape into the wind, ready to take on the demanding course. Mike Teunissen adds further depth to their lineup, showcasing versatility in various race scenarios.

Among the other competitors, Stefan Küng of Groupama-FDJ is eager for a breakthrough, having recently claimed a stage victory at the Vuelta. Movistar's Ivan Garcia Cortina is also expected to be a strong contender, building on the team's promising start to the season.

With the Spring Classics officially underway, cycling enthusiasts can anticipate a weekend filled with fierce competition, strategic maneuvers, and the grit that defines this iconic series.
