Gravel Locos Hico returns in 2025 for its 5th edition with four-course options through the heart of Texas heartland in Hico, Texas which is 70 miles northwest of Waco.
Routes range from 34 to 157 miles and up to 7,000 feet of elevation gain. The first course is non-timed and non-competitive, whereas the longer three options are competitive.
All courses primarily gravel, with strep climbs that reach 20% and includes several water crossings.
Gravel Locos attracts top privateers, including Pete Stetina, Ted King, Alison Tetrick, Laurens ten Dam and many other prominent gravel professionals.
GL30 La Pequena is the shortest and the only non-competitive route at 34 miles and 1,400 feet of elevation gain. Whether you're a gravel event newbie itching for an exhilarating experience or someone simply looking to soak up the festive vibes of Gravel Locos, this is the perfect route for you.
At mile 17, the ultimate pit stop awaits—a dazzling oasis of salsa dancing, sizzling Cuban hot dogs, Cuban coffee, and mojitos. With these epic goodies fueling your spirit, you'll be more than ready to conquer the next thrilling 17-mile stretch to the glorious finish line which includes a North Bosque River crossing.
VIDEO: My BEST Gravel Race Result! Gravel Locos Race Recap
GL60 La stretching out to a thrilling 62 miles with 2,700 ft of climbing with plenty of pit stops along the way. At mile 45, the second aid station awaits with a mouthwatering extravaganza—Cuban hot dogs, coffee, mojitos, and salsa dancing! The North Bosque River crossing takes place at mile 48.
GL100 La Gran covers 112 miles with 5,000 feet of climbing. This course includes the water crossings of GL30 and GL60 but then adds the three hills of this area known as "3 Bs," including "Loco Hill." Four aid stations along the course will help you survive these climbs.
GL150 La Loca is the longest and most challenging of the courses, and as its namesake suggests, you need to be a little crazy to ride. Cyclists travel 157 miles and gain 7,000 feet of elevation- prepare to learn that Texas is not a flat state. There are four or more aid stations to keep you hydrated and fueled as you ride. Prepare yourself for "the 3B's" starting at mile 49 and at mile 55, replenish your energy at the second official aid station. Watch out for the slippery Meridian Creek crossing at mile 74. Recharge once again at mile 91 with another Tommy's gas station. The third official aid station awaits at mile 101, offering essential supplies for the next 39-mile ride. Finally, at mile 140, indulge in Cuban hot dogs, mojitos, and coffee at the fourth official aid station to power you toward the finish line.

There are a few short sections that some riders may want to dismount and 40cc and above tires on your gravel, cross or MTB bike required, also GPS download and navigation is a must.
This is not a race, settle in at your pace, some will smash the pedals and that's OK, however the course is not for the faint hearted.
There are 2 aid stations stocked with GU gels, syrup shots, savory treats, GU hydration, bananas, pickles and more. Wild Wings XC Ski Center hosts the start and post-ride festivities with a seasonal lunch, this year a Mexican feast and an Ice cold beverage.

Stetina’s Paydirt is the most untraditional gravel race you’ll ever do. Held in the lonesome Pine Nut Mountains east of Carson City, Nevada. As a part-time lake Tahoe resident, Pete hand selects the courses from his favorite rides.
From the pro peloton to gravel privateer, Peter Stetina’s journey has been anything but ordinary.
As US junior national champion, a decade on the road saw him race all three Grand Tours, multiple world championships racing for pro-teams Garmin-Sharp, BMC Racing and Trek Segafredo.
Pete single-handedly invented the term “privateer”, a real “trailblazer" who carved out his own career in the emerging US and now international gravel racing genre.

In 2019 after un-retiring Pete won BWR California then again in 2021. Peter has rode Unbound 300 many times (and podiumed).
In 2023 Pete rode fulltime, a whole season of gravel and won the Cascade Gravel Grinder stage race, Sigma Six Hopper, Low Gap, came 2nd at Crusher in the Tushar and BWR Mexico. He also raced SBT, Big Sugar, FNLD GRVL, BWR California and Arizona, Leadville 100 and Fuego XL.
In 2024 Pete rode another full season and made it a hat-trick at BWR Utah and won Ukiah-Mendo Gravel Epic.
As gravel has exploded out of the USA, internationally, Pete went and won The Traka 360 in Spain.
When he’s not racing for fun, Pete loves craft beer and even has his own Secret Stache.

Two beautiful and challenging courses and one mechanical bull! Stetina's Paydirt in Carson City, Nevada is a gravel race like no other.
The Pine Nut Mountains are a rugged mountain range located to the east of Carson City, Nevada. Characterized by their distinct granite peaks, juniper woodlands, and sagebrush-covered foothills, this range stretches approximately 40 miles in length and varies in elevation, with its tallest point being Mount Siegel at over 9,400 feet.
The region is not only prized for its picturesque landscapes but also its rich biodiversity. The mountains serve as a habitat for diverse wildlife including wild horses, mule deer, and various bird species. Historically used by the Washoe people for its abundant resources, the Pine Nut Mountains remain a significant landmark in Nevada, drawing outdoor enthusiasts for hiking, hunting, and camping. Stetina's Paydirt explores this rugged landscape.
Paydirt consists of three timed segments to keep things competitive without separating yourself from dear friends in the dusty west of Nevada's desert. There a two distance of around 56 miles and 3,500 feet of climbing and 70 miles and 5,000 feet of climbing.
This event is a competitive un-road race with awards for top 3 riders in various age and gender groups. Paydirt is un-paving the way for other events in proving women’s racing can take center stage with a cash prize purse. Again, Juniors get to race for FREE!!
The Paydirt post-race festival features a post ride meal and celebration from local food vendors, live music, and beer provided by Revision Brewing Company including #PetesSecretStache, all within riding distance of charming downtown Carson City.

Held annually, this event has become a beacon for cyclists seeking adventure and camaraderie in the rugged landscapes of the American West.

Whitefish in Montana was recently named friendliest city in America by Expedia travellers. The town is the gateway to the Glacier National Park.
The event showcases some of Northwest Montana's most spectacular outdoor offerings with two challenging courses. The event's commitment to sustainability and conservation adds depth to its appeal, with organizers prioritizing eco-friendly practices to minimize environmental impact.

The Big Horn Sheep is 91 miles and 8,000 feet of elevation gain. Highlights of the course include Big Horn Sheep Scramble, the final stretch of Caribou Climb that forces riders to hike-a-bike, but rewards them with a top-of-the-world postcard-worthy view from Big Mountain Summit House of Glacier National Park. The terrain includes hard-pack gravel, grassy double track, and large chunk gravel. Riders are expected to have bear spray and know how to use it. It’s a true wilderness adventure.
The Mountain Goat is 48 miles and 4,200 feet of climbing, it take riders through National Forest lands, followed by the backroads of the Big Mountain Ski Resort, and back into town descending alongside vistas of Whitefish Lake.
Previous winners include well-known privateers Ted King and Sarah Sturm.
The Last Best Ride (TLBR) has garnered a devoted following, with cyclists drawn to its blend of challenge, scenery, and camaraderie. Whether tackling the course solo or riding with friends, participants are welcomed into a tight-knit community united by a passion for gravel cycling and the great outdoors. The event's inclusive atmosphere encourages riders of all abilities to join the adventure, fostering a sense of belonging beyond the finish line.
Ted King famously rode the event out of competition and raised 1 dollar for every rider he passed while recovering from a pulmonary-embolisim!
The event is the brainchild of local Jess Cerra, a professional cyclist who rode for pro teams including Twenty24 and Hagens Berman Supermint on the road. She took up gravel racing and mentors the Scuderia Pinarello womens team.
Also a chef and entrepreneur, she co-founded the event with her partner, Sam Boardman, after moving back from San Diego to Whitefish during the pandemic.
The eventraises money for the Barbara Mansfield Champion Scholar Award—a scholarship that provides post-secondary education funding for young women in Whitefish.
Barbara Mansfield was a champion educator who pushed students to discover and develop their passions, skills, and academic potential throughout her career. Jess overcame the hardships she struggled with growing up as a financially disadvantaged youth and pursued her goal of attending college.
Mansfield helped Cerra complete scholarship and college applications and that along with strong community support paved the way for Cerras to complete her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at the University of Montana debt-free.
So far, the event has raised over $102,000 for 22 young women from five schools in four, short years.
Only 150 spots left for TLBR 2025
The weekend includes a Friday night happy hour, an expo and shakeout ride Saturday, and an after-party postrace on Sunday, including chef-prepared local fare.
Race Categories include open male and female, non-binary, para cyclist, collegiate, and under 18 categories in all distances. Riders can choose from a broad array of lodges, inns, hotels, guest ranches, rental homes, resorts, condos, cabins, and camping in around Whitefish.
Don’t miss out! You can compete or complete! It’s up to you!

March is a great time to visit Florida!
The weather begins to shift from the cooler winter months, making way for the warmth of spring. Average temperatures range from a comfortable 50-70°F in North Florida. Your body will appreciate you applying sunscreen on all exposed skin. Get ready to enjoy the Sunshine State’s great outdoors.
What makes the Dirty Pecan special isn’t just the distances or the eclectic mix of riders—it’s the spirit of the event. There are no podiums or trophies, only bragging rights and the satisfaction of having survived. Six “Remote Routes” for all Abilities
There are six distances of 40, 60, 80, 100, 150 and 200 miles on offer for all abilities of gravel riders.
The roads along the majority of the course are sparsely populated. There will be many miles of riding with no civilization or people in sight. You are on your own so be prepared for anything, self-sufficiency reins and there is no mobile coverage in most places. A pre-loaded GPS cycling computer with your chosen route is a “must have”. Old school maps won’t cut it.
Water stops and convenience stores are marked on the map for each route. But there are “no guarantees” water will be available, or that stores will “be open”.
If you need a juice box and a hug every 20 miles, this is not the ride for you, please stay home!
Celebrating 10th Years
In the rolling countryside of North Florida, where pecan orchards stretch lazily under the warm Southern sun, a wild idea was born by event director Betsy Barfield and her wingman. It was part genius, part insanity, and entirely fuelled by a love of bikes, dirt, and the nuttiest scenery the region had to offer.
This is the story of the Dirty Pecan Gravel Ride—a ride as gritty as the roads and as nutty as its name suggests.
Today, the Dirty Pecan Gravel Ride has become a North Florida institution. It’s equal parts punishment and pleasure, a test of willpower and a love letter to the land. Riders leave with sore muscles, dirty bikes, and hearts full of pecan-fueled joy.
So, if you ever find yourself in North Florida with a bike, a sense of adventure, and a questionable relationship with pain, join the Dirty Pecan. It’s not just a ride—it’s a rite of passage. And remember: the dirt washes off, but the stories last forever.
The Dirty Pecan attracts all types of riders; hard-core cyclists aiming for Strava glory, casual cruisers looking for Instagram-worthy moments, and locals who just wanted an excuse to eat more dirty pecans i.e. – chocolate covered pecans!

#4 The Deerfield Dirt-Road Randonnee
Arguably the oldest and original gravel ride, D2R2 returns to the hill towns of Franklin County, MA next August for its 20th Anniversary, raising funds for the Frankin Land Trust
The Deerfield Dirt-Road Randonnee was actually conceived way back the 1990's as just a favorite dirt-road loop in the hilltowns of Franklin County, Massachusetts. First run in 2005, long before gravel “was a thing”, this event is still respected as one of the best in the country.
D2R2 2025 is shaping up to be unforgettable marking 20 incredible years since this iconic ride started. Dreamed up by the legendary Sandy Whittlesey, many have hailed D2R2 as the hardest, most beautiful, most fun, most traffic-free, most unique, and overall best ride that they have ever done.
A range of courses will provide access to novices as well as challenge the world's strongest riders. D2R2 offers 7 routes for 2025 from a 12-mile Family Ride to the legendary 180K. The courses use the narrowest, oldest, twistiest, quietest, and most-scenic roads available.
In the spirit of gravel, riders cover the course in a self-sufficient manner, without motorized crew vehicles and D2R2 will never offer prizes for anything other than gags, nor will finish results ever be presented like it was a race.
VIDEO: D2R2 2023 - Mystery ride
The organization put as much effort into its camping, party atmosphere and food offerings as the routes, and the event is a key fundraiser for the Franklin Land Trust's efforts to preserve land in the region.
This year’s Mystery Ride promises to be something truly special—a spectacular 200k route designed by Sandy himself, spotlighting the amazing conservation efforts of the Franklin Land Trust. A grand tour of Franklin County's secret back roads. Bring some low gears as you’ll need them to climb a 20 percent grade with 100 miles in your legs and plan on a full day.
More than just a Ride
D2R2 is a community campout and celebration with incredible food, drink, and music: everything you need to gear up and wind down.
They’re also turning up the fun throughout the weekend! Friday night will bring a lively new party atmosphere to kick off the festivities, and on Sunday, join them for a relaxed post-D2R2 ride-out to keep the adventure going.
Camping fee is $50.00 per vehicle for the entire weekend. Come join them for a weekend of fun!

Experience the Ultimate Gravel Adventure and Race at the TransRockies Gravel Royale in the heart of the Canadian Rockies on a two-wheeled party with 200 like-minded legends.
The 2nd edition of TransRockies Gravel Royale took gravel stage racing to a new level in 2024 in the remote areas of the breath-taking Rocky Mountains with a real battle over 3 days in both the men’s and women’s categories with some nail biting finishes.

Alexis Cartier (Poutine Mafia) won the first 2 stages and started the final stage ahead of teammate Julien Gagne. The pair, both from Quebec, went head to head with Gagne finishing second in a sprint on stage1 and third on stage 2.

Behind, local B.C. riders Cory Wallace and Carter Nieuwesteeg were fighting to defend home territory.
VIDEO: TransRockies 2024 Stage 2
The great thing about gravel racing is the unknown element and self-reliance required when things don’t go as planned. Cory flatted badly and Nieuwesteeg broke a rim which saw him retire, behind Canadian cyclocross national champion Michael van den Ham finish third and move up onto podium.
In a nail biting finish, despite the battle behind, Gagne attacked Cartier on the final stage to finish 1m 14s ahead and take the overall TransRockies Gravel Royale men’s race.
In true grit, Cartier and Gagne bike packed to the start in Nipika Mountain Resort from Calgary as a warm up. Afterwards the continued on all the way to Vancouver.
In the women’s race, USA’s Chelsee Pummell from Montana won all three stages without incident to win the women’s race.
However behind, Oregon’s Emma Maaranen attacked local BC rider Lindsay Glassford to try and overhaul her on GC. Glassford hung on to finish third on the stage and defend her 2nd place overall to make for some really animated racing.

#2 Oregon Trail Gravel Stage Race
The Oregon Trail Gravel is the undisputed “Grand Tour of Gravel” in the world, America’s Premier gravel stage race.
The all-inclusive Bike Vacation is a five-day event gravel stage race in the hearth of Oregon’s Cascades. . It’s for privateers and adventure riders who want to test their limits and push personal boundaries and attracts riders from over the world with international recognition and participating on the Gravel Earth Series.
Over the course of five days in June last, participants rode through a variety of terrain, from dense forests to wide open valleys, enjoying nature at its finest. This event is not only a test of physical endurance, but also an opportunity to connect with the local community, experience their hospitality, and immerse yourself in the unique culture of the region.
The first two stages of the Oregon Trail Gravel Stage Race were challenging.
The first stage ended at camp 1 in Gilchrist, where riders were faced with perfect conditions but challenging terrain that defied expectations of an "easy day". The five-day stage race kicked off with a fast and dusty 66-mile stage in Bend, Oregon. The competition was intense from the start, with riders pushing hard to break the peloton. Axelle Dubau-Prevot and Cameron Jones won the stage from bunch sprints.
The second stage took riders from Gilchrist to Oakridge, offered very different and more challenging terrain, with a longer stage of 97 miles, more elevation gain, and technical sections that tested riders' endurance and skills. The Oregon wilderness continues to enchant everyone, and the incredible level of athletes left everyone speechless. With the first two stages completed, the excitement and anticipation are building for the next ones. American Michaela Thompson and Frenchman Alexys Brunel won the second stage on Thursday.
Friday’s stage 3 of the Oregon Trail Gravel Grinder was more of a recovery day with more time at camp to relax or jump in the river. The stage was marked by timed segments, featuring speed and explosive moments. It was a fast-paced, adrenaline-filled day with impressive highlights. One of the most exciting moments was when the second- and third-place riders crossed the finish line simultaneously. To break the tie, they competed in an exhilarating "beer chug," where the participant who drank the beer the fastest emerged victorious. In this case, Cameron Jones clinched the win.
Cecile Lejeune and Alexys Brunel won on the day, while Michaela Thompson, who finished second in women's category, held onto her overall lead by over three minutes on Lejeune as Brunel pulled ahead of Jones in the men’s catgory by seven seconds.
The gravel race wrapped up on Sunday with a gruelling 70-mile Queen stage that took participants back to the start in Bend, Oregon. It was a brutally hard day. Pete Stetina animated the race, cauising mayhem in the men's race after losing time on previous stages he decided to go on the attack, with only Easter and Hugo Drechou able to hang on. Stetina sprinted to the line with Easter taking the stage. Drechou moved into first place overall with his efforts.
Lejeune soloed to victory taking the stage win by over 10 minutes in the women's category, moving into first place in the G.C overhauling Thompson.
After 5 days, 4 nights, and 350 miles, Cécile Lejuene and Hugo Drechou won North America's Premier Gravel Stage race in 2024.
Team Breakaway Promotions were proud to share 5 sunny days with everyone discovering the diverse areas of Oregon and seeing how the cyclists enjoyed every stretch.
The Oregon Trail Gravel has given everyone who participated epic moments: thrilling descents, challenging climbs, laughter, effort, and perseverance. The most incredible adventure in America!

BWR California celebrates its 14th Anniversary of pedalling perversity in 2025, one of the most unique rides in North America.
Started in 2012 and created in the spirit of the great spring monuments, it’s the most unique one day cycling event in North America. Over 120 miles of suffering over sinuous, bone grinding roads fraught with arduous climbs, mud, chocking dust, leg-numbing sleet or heat, and headwinds.
A ronde replete with waffles, the Hell of the North County included 12,000 feet of elevation and much of it including dirt and gravel sections, steep categorized climbs, stretches of pave, road, creek crossings and unusual surprises that turned many a hardman/women into a crumbling heap of tears.
To ride it, you better BTFU - Belgian the F*** Up!
Although the original BWR California ride not a 100% un-road ride, its gravel sections are legendary and has been instrumental in US gravel scene over the last 14 years, continually pushing boundaries.
VIDEO: Belgian Waffle Ride California 2023
Michael Marckx, founder of the BWR, designed the original ronde through North County San Diego, where it clattered through agrarian hamlets and Ardenne-like hills in a never-ending string of climbs—along dirt or roughly paved roads carved through inland San Diego’s beautiful rural and sometimes forested backcountry.
BWR California has continued to evolve into one of the best-known Spring Classic events in the United States, attracting a stacked field of professional road, gravel, CX and endurance riders. Following this success, BWR unveiled the Wafer Ride in 2015, giving riders a chance to partake in all the festivities of the BWR while taking on only half of the punishing route.
2016 was a defining year for BWR California. The full course was 144 miles, with 12,000 ft. of vertical climbing including 18 dirt sections, many affectionately known as "Bergs”. The ride sold out in advance to over 1,000 riders. Interest exploded, about the same time the whole “gravel scene" really took off in the USA.
That year, Joshua Berry crossed the line in a time of 7 hours 22 minutes and 30 seconds to earn himself a full Belgian feast (including Waffles and Custom Brewed bottle of Belgian Ale from The Lost Abbey), and joyous merriment from the huge crowd, ride staff and fellow riders! For the ladies Amanda "Panda" Nauman (SDG Factory Team), a Cyclocross, Gravel and Mountain Bike racer, won 4 Jerseys, Hardwoman, Queen of Sprints, Queen of the Mountains and Queen of the Dirt after finishing the full BWR course in first place. Amanda has won many tough endurance events including Unbound.
By 2021, BWR expanded to include additional races in Cedar City, Utah, Asheville, Carolina, and Lawrence, Kansas in creating the Tripel Crown of Gravel Series. Each BWR event offers a prize purse to top-five finishers, female and male. The Tripel Crown offers a separate prize purse to the top five men and women overall across all four events based on their cumulative times – the top three placings determine a rider’s score. An age group competition also awards top riders in each five-year age bracket with Quad-Tripel Crown of Gravel honors.
In 2021 when BWR expanded to Kansas and WorldTour and Belgian Remco Evenepoel and Deceuninck - Quick-Step teammate Mattia Cattaneo rode, making four events in the series.
In 2022 as gravel racing became a full time career, BWR offered the largest Ever One-Day Gravel Prize Purse of $50,000 in cash and prizes being distributed between the top five men and women, inclusive of a $5,000 purse and prizes for the top three junior riders.
Over the last years Rhonda Quick won BWR California the most, 3 times, Neal Shirley twice, Larissa Connors twice and Pete Stetina twice. Stetina has also won Kansas twice and Utah three times.
Stetina famously said ““These are my A races now. This is its own legitimate discipline; we are creating our own discipline and I’m so proud to be a part of it. This is fun — now I get to have beers with 4,000 of my friends.”
The late “Mo” Wilson, a rising star who was also carving a full-time career as gravel racer, won in spring 2022 just before her life was tragically cut short.
BWR has carved the way in its effort to host the very best professional gravel racers in the world, support top junior riders whilst improving support for riders of all abilities out on course.
In 2023 BWR expanded to Queretaro in Mexico and British Columbia in Canada.
Canyon Bicycles, Lost Abbey Beer, Sierra Nevada Brewing, New Belgium Brewing, Rouleur Brewing, IRC Tire, F2C Nutrition, Specialized, The Feed, Kask, Mumu Apparel, FasCat Coaching, Qeja, BikeInsure, Almsthre, Saris, Unroad Unltd, BirdWorx, Enervit, Science In Sport and Obed have all been proud sponsors of the series.
The Belgian Waffle Ride (BWR) continues to redefine gravel cycling in 2025 with the launch of the Quad-Tripel Crown of Gravel Series and a thrilling new venue for the legendary Belgian Waffle Ride California (BWR CA) at the breath-taking Del Mar Polo Fields.
This iconic event, located near the ocean and Del Mar Fairgrounds, just minutes from the San Diego airport, will host Southern California's largest cycling festival from April 25-27, 2025.
The festival features a weekend of diverse cycling events, including the 14th Annual BWR CA (the Unroad Race), the inaugural Belgian Waffle Run, and the all-new Belgian Waffle Roadie-Oh, a grand fondo road event. These events will benefit Curebound in support of cancer research.
The Quad-Tripel Crown of Gravel Series presents an epic challenge for cyclists with four unique and demanding races in Arizona, California, Utah, and the new addition of Bozeman, Montana. To earn the prestigious Quad-Tripel Crown title, riders must complete at least three of the four races, celebrated for their variety and toughness.
In addition to the Quad-Tripel Crown Series, BWR has moved the BWR North Carolina to October, with British Columbia in June, and Mexico in November, plus the inaugural BWR Monterey (CA)in July, offering distinct and challenging courses outside of the series.
