Sébastien Delorme will be the Honorary President for the 2016 edition of the Granfondo Garneau-Quebecor

Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, March 3rd, 2016 – Louis Garneau is pleased to announce that renowned actor Sébastien Delorme will be taking on the honorary presidency for the 2016 edition of the Granfondo Garneau-Quebecor presented by Cascades.

"We are lucky to be able to count on someone who is so passionate about cycling as Honorary President this year. His enthusiasm makes him an unparalleled ambassador for our event. Given his involvement with youth and cycling in general, Sébastien was for us an obvious choice”, explains Louis Garneau.

On his part, Sébastien Delorme is thrilled to be a part of the team: “After 5 years participating in the Granfondo Garneau-Quebecor, it brings me pure joy to succeed Bernard Hinault, a living legend of cycling, as Honorary President. No, I haven’t won a Tour de France, but for several years, with Louis Garneau's help, I've been working on initiating kids to competing and excelling in this sport that I adore. My ambition for the next years is to teach cycling to as many kids as possible, and, incidentally, to get parents to move and ride with us, thus ensuring the continuance of the Granfondo Garneau-Quebecor for the coming years. Nothing less!”

Sébastien Delorme has been on the cast of dozens of television series, over 25 theatre productions and has played roles in several feature films. When he is not occupied with his professional activities, he can often be seen riding his bike. In fact, after a life-long passion for the sport, he now conveys this passion to young cyclists. His cycling club, Xpress Quebecor, now counts over 65 members between the ages of 6 and 15 in the greater Montreal region.

About the Gran Fondo Garneau-Québecor

The Granfondo Garneau-Québecor presented by Cascades is an annual 118 km bike ride between Trois-Rivières and St-Augustin-de-Desmaures,  now in its 8th year of existence. The goal of the event is to promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle while raising funds for the Little Brothers Foundation. The event is intended both for cycling enthusiasts and experienced athletes. Last year, the event attracted nearly 2,500 riders.

The 8th edition will take place on Sunday, August 14, 2016. Riders will leave the Alphonse-Desjardins Sports Center in Trois-Rivières at 9:00 am to arrive at the Louis Garneau Sports factory finish line in St-Augustin-de-Desmaures in the afternoon. Several groups will be formed according to cyclists’ average riding speeds.

Since its creation in 2009 by Louis Garneau, the Granfondo has been very much involved in the community to support the Little Brothers organization. In seven years, over $380,000 have been donated to the Foundation.

Recently, the event was rated one of Canada's top Gran Fondo's by Gran Fondo Guide for 2016.
