Farm to Fork Fondo Bicycle Event Draws Over 450 Cyclists to Central Vermont

Sunday July, 17 2016 Pittsfield, VT - Last Sunday, over 450 cyclists set out on a farm-to-table bicycle ride through Central Vermont, stopping at nine local farms to refuel with chef-prepared food made with ingredients from the farms. The event, Farm to Fork Fondo – Vermont, is a recreational ride that draws athletes of all abilities. Former Olympians, Tour de France riders, and the Colavita-Bianchi Women’s Pro Cycling Team rode alongside a mix of casual and competitive cycling enthusiasts throughout the day.

“A major goal of the Farm to Fork Fondo series is to provide opportunities for the cycling community to support and become better acquainted with the agricultural community, and rural Vermont is the perfect place to do that. These farms are more than just gorgeous scenery. Connected to every beautiful barn are families doing work that is vital to our way of life, and we urge our participants to support local farmers wherever it is they call home,” said event founder, Tyler Wren.

“We are tremendously grateful for the cooperation of all of the communities along our course, and generous support from Riverside Farm and the dozens of local volunteers who helped make this year’s event a great success.”

Farm to Fork Fondo contributed over $3,000 to local non-profit organizations that collectively sent over 60 volunteers to support riders at gourmet aid stations along the course.

Participating non-profits included Rutland Area Food and Farm Link, Vermont Farmers Food Center, Vermont Foodbank, Stockbridge Commons Meetinghouse, Ripton Community Church, and the Brandon Boys & Girls Club. Financial support for the contributions was provided by New Holland Agriculture, Rutland Regional Medical Center, and participant donations.
