Henley Highwayman Sportive to Rub Shoulders with Returning Olympic Heroes

The Henley Highwayman Sportive on September 17th will run side by side with the return of the Team GB Olympic rowing medalists to the famous regatta town. The Highwayman Sportive starts and finishes in the town’s beautiful Market Square, where, after the phenomenal GB success in the Olympic rowing events, the town now plans to celebrate the returning heroes too.

Henley Highwayman organiser Phil Harrison says, “It’s exciting and, for us and riders on the Highwayman Sportive, it’s going to add a thrilling new dimension to the day. The town council approached us with their plans so we met with them to discuss logistics and to ensure that the two could happily run side by side. It’s a unique opportunity; the town centre finish line atmosphere is a good part of the Highwayman’s appeal, but this will be something else – a chance to ride through the crowds and the goodwill of an olympic celebration!”

The Highwayman course starts and finishes right in the town centre, with short and mid routes stretching out into the Chiltern Hills. Riders taking on the full 182km route complete the 120km mid route before passing through the market place to begin on a second circuit of the 62km short route to complete their ride. The event is accompanied by separate hill run on the following day (with distance options from 5km up 27km), which will be started by the Mayor, and begins with a closed road lead out. Brave souls taking on both the bike ride and the run will get to compete in the unique Henley Highwayman Duathlon.
