Rollfast 8x8 Challenge to Take Place in Brown County, Indiana

The second annual Rollfast 8x8 Challenge takes place in the hills of southern Indiana at Brown County State Park on Sunday, April 15, 2018

(Indianapolis - January 30, 2017) - Rollfast will host the 8x8 Challenge on Sunday, April 15, 2018 in Brown County, Indiana. The second annual Rollfast 8x8 Challenge takes place in the hills of southern Indiana at Brown County State Park. Known as the “Little Smokies” because of the area’s resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Brown County encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges and fog-shrouded ravines. As Indiana’s largest park, Brown County has nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads. The park also hosted the 1987 Pan American Games Road Race.

The Route

The route consists of a 11.7 mile loop with a rest stop at the start/finish area. Each lap has approximately 900 feet of vertical gain.

Riders can choose from a 4-lap or full 8-lap challenge. Last year, 14 riders finished all 8 laps in the challenge. Mark Weghorst of Westfield, Indiana was the first 8 lap finisher in a time of 4:57:20.

History

The idea for the 8x8 challenge came from the club members of Rollfast. They had been going down to BCSP and riding the challenging figure-eight loop for quite some time. Typically, they would do two, three, maybe even four laps at most. One day, Matt mentioned to the guys how crazy it would be to try and do eight laps of the figure-eight loop. Matt and club member Spencer went down one day with full intentions to do the 8x8 challenge. After five laps, they had enough of the same loop and decided to go ride outside the park a little bit. To date, neither have completed the full 8x8 challenge.

Qualifying Event for the Rollfast Gran Fondo

As an added safety measure, we have introduced the Primo Start Position at the Rollfast Gran Fondo. The Primo corral is a gated area at the front of the ride for the faster and more experienced riders. Riders must meet special requirements to start in the Primo corral. One of the options to qualify is to finish the Rollfast 8x8 Challenge.

Post-Race Party

After the race, cyclists can relax in the recovery lounge featuring Normatec boots, a post-ride meal, music and time with fellow cyclists.
