ATLANTA (Tuesday, August 27, 2019) – ATL Airport District Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) welcomes cycling enthusiasts and spectators alike to the second round of this year’s Spin the District, the area’s multi-faceted entertainment and cycling experience that transforms the city streets into a premier, family-friendly destination. After a successful first round in College Park and Hapeville in May, Spin the District will continue with the East Point Velodrome on Friday, September 20, followed by the Union City Gran Fondo on Sunday, September 22. In addition to high-speed racing, spectators are invited to come out, cheer on the cyclists and enjoy good food, live entertainment and fun to close out this year’s event series.

“The ATL Airport District is becoming an increasingly popular cycling destination, and we are proud to welcome cyclists from across the nation to showcase our unique trails and the Dick Lane Velodrome,” said Cookie Smoak, president of ATL Airport District Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Beyond the races, we are looking forward to bringing the community together with live music and incredible local food. East Point Velodrome Race | Friday, September 20, 7 to 10 p.m.

Spin the District will kick off its fall weekend of cycling events with an all-out party at the Dick Lane Velodrome in East Point – Georgia’s only concrete cycling track. Attendees are invited to gather and cheer on cyclists as they conquer the high-speed, no-brakes East Point Velodrome race. Located in historic Sumner Park, the Velodrome will be buzzing with food trucks from Dominic’s Brick Oven Pizza and Tex Tacos, local craft beer, and live entertainment courtesy of DJ Yvonne Monet, in addition to the fast-paced race. This family-friendly event is free to the public, will offer free bike valet and is located a short walk or rideshare from the East Point MARTA Station.

Union City Gran Fondo | Sunday, September 22, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Spin the District will come to a close with the Union City Gran Fondo, Italian for “big ride,” the Gran Fondo includes a 10-mile family fun ride, plus 30, 60 and 100-mile road options. Cyclists can also choose mixed-gravel including a 60, 100 and ultra-tough 150-mile route. Both road and gravel travel through South Fulton, Coweta and Carroll Counties and will be reminiscent of the Gran Fondo’s Italian roots, celebrating the beginning of autumn with views of Georgia’s rolling hills. Spin the District has expanded its range of routes this year, including three paved rides – a fully-synthetic Polyester100, a smooth-as-silk Rayon60 and a comfy Velour30, as well as a hard-wearing gravel-blend ToughSkin150, a plus-size mixed-gravel Husky100 and a resilient but relaxed Denim60. Outside of the race, participants can enjoy the all-new rider lounge, complete with comfortable seating and TVs. Food will be available for purchase from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. courtesy of Triple Jay’s food truck.

Rider registration and event details can be found here.
