While bringing the famous rainbow jersey to Geelong and the Surf Coast is a huge honour, the 23-year-old adds: “I would like to try to win it, but I have to be better in the heat.”

Like Cadel 10 years ago, Mads became his country’s first men’s UCI Road World Champion. The Dane famously claimed the title in a rain-soaked Yorkshire this September.

“There will be a lot of pressure, but it also gives me some confidence,” he says. “I’m the guy who wants to honour the jersey the most and give it respect and be in the top of the races.”

Mads returns for his third hit out at #CadelRoadRace, and will need to overpower reigning champion Elia Viviani (Cofidis Solutions Credits) for the title.
