Mallorca 312 postponed until October due to coronavirus lockdown

The sell out Gran Fondo, the Mallorca 312, has been postponed until October due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organisers confirmed

The Gram Fondo, which is incredibly popular with internationals rider, especially from the UK, was due to take place on Saturday 25th April but will now be pushed back until Saturday 10th October.

"Mallorca 312 organisation has been working and analysing the different scenarios that allow us to develop the race in the safest way possible by protecting the health of all the participants" read the official statement.

"After the latest events in the context of the COVID-19, the World Health Organisation, the Health Institutions and Authorities' recommendations about the convenience of celebrating the event on 25th April as planned, we are forced to postpone the race."

2The new date for the 11th edition of the Mallorca 312 has been postponed to 10th October 2020."

The event organiser confirmed that all entrants will be allowed to transfer their place to the later date.

If unable to attend the new day, riders will have the option of choosing to ride either the Eifel 205 (22nd August) or Bästad 198 (13th September), transfer the bib number to a friend or family member or sell their spot to another interested rider.

Earlier this week, Spain banned all recreational cycling in response to the coronavirus spread, handing out fines of up to €3,000 for anybody caught riding.

The Mallorca 312 is the latest in a long list of cyclosportives to fall due to the ongoing COVID-19 virus spread. The sportives connected to Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix and Liege-Bastogne-Liege have all been postponed, among many others.
