Fantastic news for cyclists in North America and around the world. One of America’s Premier Gran Fondo’s, the Utah-Cache Gran Fondo has been given permission to take place as a recreational ride.

Utah’s Premier Bike Ride will take place over two days with a revised format to meet public health guidelines this July 10-11th

Lead Organizer, Troy Oldham, was pleased to confirm the positive news this week, “We have been given a green light from the Health Department and County to proceed with a revised event format. Under current Utah public health restrictions, we cannot have a mass start event, more 50+ people at the start.”

“Our agreed format is to have an open event over two days, and allow riders to schedule their own start time anytime between Friday from 5:30 am and Saturday to 9:30am. Riders will leave in groups of no more than 40 riders, and ALL recreational distances will be open; 35, 50, 75 and 100 miles.”

“Our plan is compliant with the “Yellow” Utah health guidelines.  Support stations, jerseys (for those who bought one), rider gifts, prizes, meals, etc. will still be made available. We would like to wholeheartedly thank the Health Department and County for their support in helping us to proceed.”

“Although it will feel a bit different, we will try to do all the things our riders love about the event.”

“Everyone who is registered can take part, enjoy the fantastic routes, and stay safe and keep fit whilst maintaining social distancing rules. The Safety and Health of our participants is our number #1 priority.”

Below is an infographic sent to all registered and potential riders that explains what changes have been made to comply with the new rules and keep riders and volunteers safe. You can download a larger pdf copy here.

No UCI and GFNS Qualifier this Year

Due to the current health guidelines, unfortunately this year Utah’s Premier bike ride won’t be able to host the 2020 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship and USA Gran Fondo National Championship qualifying races.

Troy Oldham stated “No doubt, these will return in 2021, when public health restrictions are eased and a more traditional Gran Fondo race format is allowed.”

“In any case we really want cyclists to join us for any of the distances (50, 75 or 100 miles), so qualified riders can still participate and receive a partial refund.”

Oldham also stated if that wasn’t suitable riders can defer to 2021 or receive a full refund from the event, minus the service fee.
