What about cycling events as European countries reopen their borders?

Countries in the EU are opening up their borders for travel from June 15, 2020

Many European countries have reopened their borders to other European nations with the European Union.

Travelling to Switzerland, Germany and France is now possible for EU members. with Spain and Portugal from July onwards. 

With pro racing starting in August, this autumn is looking to be a very busy season for professional and amateur cyclists.

Cyclists can start to plan trips to the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Dolomites, as well as cycling events.

EU are also planning to open their borders to the oitside from July 1st.

What about the cycling events?

From mid July onwards it looks as if events are possible, with limits to the number of participants to begin with.

  Switzerland: events for up to 300 people are possible from 6 June. On June 24th the limit may be increased.

  France:  Smaller events are already allowed from mid-July, with larger events up to 5,000 might be allowed in September onwards.

  Italy: smaller events are allowed, with a 1.5 meter social distancing restriction from mid-June. Gran Fondo's should be able to take place later, hopefully from September onwards.

  Spain: smaller events are allowed, with a 1.5 meter social distancing restriction from mid-June.

  Austria: from 1 July, outdoor events are allowed again, up to 500 people. From August 1st possibly up to 1,250 persons.

  Germany: Events size from 150 to 500 are possible again under certain conditions depending on the federal region. Large events are temporarily banned

  Belgium: Nothing concrete about sports events yet.

  Netherlands: from July 1st, organised gatherings of up to 100 people are allowed again.

As a result, many European Gran Fondo events have been postponed from September onwards.
