Gravel Royale will take riders on secluded gravel roads through the Canadian Rocky Mountains, traditional home to the Ktunaxa Nation Indigenous people. The extensive network of well-maintained fire roads in the region guarantee great riding and racing conditions.
Every stage is designed around adventure, with spectacular views and the chance to spot wildlife as you ride. Each day, racers will conquer a new mountain pass on their way to the finish line.
NEW FOR 2024, riders will be welcomed on arrival day with a prologue, followed by a 3-day stage race starting the next day. Two distances will be offered each stage– a “Full Pint” with a daily distance of 90-120 km (about 75 mi) and a “Half Pint” with a daily distance of 40-85 km (about 50 mi). Riders can compete for stage podiums and general classification in either the Full or Half Pint, or just jump into whichever ride distance suits them for a fully supported ride each day.
In total, the full 3-day course (aka the Royal Flush) extends approx. 300km and climbs over 5,500m for the full pint course. The Half pint option serves up around 200km and 3,500m of climbing. The majority of the route is gravel road with some sections of double track and narrower deactivated roads.
The TransRockies team pride themselves on the rugged and remote nature of their stages, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be left to fend for yourself. They ensure an expertly marked course, 2 checkpoints per stage, as well as ambassadors and course crews, ready to lend racers a helping hand.
Each day will have you crossing the finish line with a dusty grin from ear to ear, and memories that will last a lifetime.

The TransRockies Gravel Royale is more than just a race. Racers need a place to relax and recharge between stages, not worry about details. So the TransRockies team takes care of everything. They set up the tents, cook the meals and provide a place to shower for both you and your bike (at a bike wash station, of course). There is even massage and athletic therapy available. So that once you cross the finish line, all you have to do is concentrate on the race ahead.
An epic adventure like the TransRockies Gravel Royale is where stories are made. But what’s a great story without someone to share it with? The TransRockies team gets it.
That’s why, at camp, they set up a little place they like to call “Chillville”. It’s a spot dedicated to strengthening the bond between racers and building “The Stoke”. You can trust that it will always be filled with drinks, snacks and more than a few tall tales.
Cross the finish line, kick off your shoes and enjoy exceptional camp hospitality—TransRockies style!

The Canadian Rockies are calling
The TransRockies Gravel Royale is held in a very special part of the world. The Canadian Rockies lie along the Continental Divide Elk, bighorn sheep, wolves and bears inhabit the mountains and forests. A World heritage site, the region is home to four National Parks and features alpine peaks and lakes, icefields, and hot springs.
Most of the route also falls into the Kootenay Rockies region in the southeast corner of British Columbia and the TransRockies Gravel Royale explores some of the most remote areas of the region. It takes place on ancestral lands of the Ktunaxa First Nation, whose people have occupied the lands surrounding the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers for more than 10,000 years.
Stage 1 - Kootenay River Route
Starting at Nipika Mountain Resort, Stage 1 heads southbound on the Kootenay-Palliser Forest Service Road on remote logging roads, over steep mountain passes, by clear blue rivers and fun fast gravel. Full-Pinters will cross the Kootenay River and return north on the Ravenshead.
Stage 2 – Palliser River Route
Stage 2 takes adventurers far up the Palliser River drainage into the heart of the “Royal Group” of mountains, the namesake of Gravel Royale, just a stone’s throw from the continental divide with a lot of long gradual climbing. On the return trip riders Full Pinters will climb Little Elk Creek and descending Cochrane Creek before arriving back at Nipika.
Stage 3 – Cross River Route
Stage 3 starts on Nipika’s cross country ski trails rolling north through the Cross River Recreation Area. From there you’re back on good gravel roads to the high point of the day at Miller Pass. Full pint riders will enjoy and additional out and back section up the Cross River with several creek crossings which will require you to get off and cross on foot. Things get a little jungle like until you get to the Albert River Forest service road with rolling hills on good gravel roads. The stretch from the “Jungle” along the Albert River is particularly scenic.
