Breaking his collarbone, sternum and a number of ribs in the disastrous crash that not only ruined all the hard work he'd put in ready for the Spring Classics but also denied the Belgian superstar his expected debut appearance at the upcoming Giro d'Italia.

In his recovery, van Aert has posted a 1 hour 30km training ride to Strava in the area around his home in Belgium. Van Aert also showed off his new full suspension Cervelo MTB bike that he was using but couldn't help himself from posting an apology note alongside the upload. "Sorry to all the colleagues I've ever given shit to because they have spacers under their stem," he writes.

The Spring Classics and the Giro d'Italia are no longer on the cards for van Aert, that's not to say he is without goal now this season. Later this summer, both the Olympic Games and the World Championships are targets for the Belgian as he works towards recovery.
