The ride dates back to 2005, when three local bike enthusiasts started the Tour de Steamboat (TDS) to promote a community event doing what they love; riding bikes and encouraging riders of all levels to join in the fun!  The Tour was originally founded by Kent Eriksen in the 1970’s. Kent is our own local bike legend as founder of Moots Cycles and Kent Eriksen Cycles and he remains our inspiration for the TDS today.

Benefitting the Local Community

The Tour de Steamboat is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit entity, and all proceeds go directly to our beneficiary non-profits in the Yampa Valley. The Yampa Valley is located in north-western Colorado, nestled among the Rocky Mountains. It encompasses the area around the Yampa River, including parts of Routt County. The valley is known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities, including hiking, skiing, and cycling.

Proceeds from the ride benefit four Yampa Valley non-profits: Partners in Routt County, Everyone Preventing Suicide (REPS), the South Routt Recreation Association, and Yampa Valley Sustainability Council.

The beneficiaries are also committed to paying it forward. Every year, the beneficiary non-profits choose other local beneficiary organizations to receive a portion of the event proceeds.
