Nestled amidst the breath-taking Okanagan Valley, this event unveils a captivating route that winds through canyons adorned with vibrant wildflowers, traverses historic trestles, and unveils hidden delights such as shaded decommissioned railway tunnels. Each ascent and descent along the sweeping switchbacks of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail presents a unique panoramic view, showcasing the beauty of crystal-clear lakes and rolling desert hills.
The marquee event, the Full Fondo Plus, is an enthralling one-day adventure spanning over 138+ km. Kettle Mettle also offers alternatives for riders seeking different challenges. The 50km Medio and 100km Full Fondo distances provide options to suit various preferences and abilities.
In addition to the exhilarating one-day event, participants have the opportunity to engage in a two-day stage race, set amidst the stunning backdrop of the Okanagan. Choose between the two-day event, an immersive experience that spans September 15th and 16th. The two-day stage race introduces an exciting new course on the first day, commencing from Summerland, BC. Brace yourself for a multi-day cycling adventure that will test your mettle.
The Kettle Mettle promises to be a momentous event, marking its place among the gravel cycling elite. Prepare to conquer the challenge, savour the picturesque vistas, and forge lasting memories in the Okanagan Valley.
The main start is beside Lake Okanagan, Penticton and finishes in East Kelowna. On route, there be several aid stations as well as limited support for riders with flats and mechanical issues and of course first aid.
The Kettle Mettle begins by the shores of Lake Okanagan in Penticton, and finished in East Kelowna. The majority of the Fondo takes place along the famed Kettle Valley Railway Trail (KVR), boasting a maximum 2.2% grade known as the "Railway Grade."
This trail presents an accessible cycling opportunity for individuals across various fitness levels. As you progress along the course, immerse yourself in the wonders of Myra Canyon Provincial Park, where 17 remarkable trestles grace the landscape alongside several captivating tunnels. Ascending from Penticton to Chute Lake unveils an ever-expanding panoramic view of the Okanagan Valley's scenery and awe-inspiring vistas.
Upon registration, participants will receive a souvenir t-shirt. On the course, expert support will be available to tackle any mechanical or flat tire mishaps. Multiple aid stations will be strategically positioned along the route to help keep participants hydrated and fuelled.
After crossing the finish line, rejoice in the camaraderie as you indulge in a refreshing, ice-cold beer (or non-alcoholic alternative) and savor a well-deserved post-ride meal. The event will also provide participants with comprehensive results, including their recorded time, alongside the chance to win exciting prizes.
Prize categories encompass a range of divisions, honoring both men and women as individuals, as well as teams comprising two or four participants. Regardless of your preferred format, Kettle Mettle promises an exhilarating and inclusive competition for all.
For those accompanying riders, spectator food options and bus tickets facilitating transportation between Penticton and East Kelowna are available for purchase, ensuring a seamless experience for all involved.
