Simenc and Orlando fastest at the 37th Maratona dles Dolomites

The 37th Maratona dles Dolomites ended with victory for Slovenian Laura Simenc (TEAM de Rosa Santini) and Italian Giuseppe Orlando (Cycling Explorers) after 138km and over 4,200 meters of climbing

Starting in Badia, Italy, 8,000 riders participated in the sold out event, considered one of the toughest Gran Fondo's in Europe with seven mountain passes; Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena,Campolongo,Giau  and Falzarego Passes.

One week after winning the La Marmotte GranFondo Alps, the 24 year-old Italian blitzed the 138km mountainous course in wet and challenging conditions in a time of 4:30:37, 33s ahead of David Mayo (4:31:10) and 38s ahead of Tommaso Elettrico (4:31:15) in third place.

Well known top amateurs, Manuel Senni (4:31:55) and Loic Ruffaut (4:33:14) completed the top five overall.

In the women's category, 34 year-old multiple UCI Gran Fondo World Champion Laura Simenc won in a time of 5:30:31, three minutes ahead of Roberta Bussone (5:33:24) and reigning world champion Ils Van der Moeren of Belgium (5:45:18) in third place.

In the 106km Medio Gondo, Guilia Medri (4:07:33)  and Stefan Kirchmair (3:21:38) were fastest.

In the 55km Piccolo Fondo, Michela Santini (2:21:08) and Thomas Hintner (1:59.22) were fastest.
