Handy and Kinney fastest at the 29th edition of the Mammoth Gran Fondo

Over 1,400 cyclists took part in the popular ride in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at California’s highest four-season resort

Mammoth Mountain is California’s highest four-season resort located just 300 miles east of San Francisco in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It boasts a wide range of affordable accommodation to suit all budgets during the summer season.

The Mammoth Gran Fondo provides the ultimate Gran Fondo experience for cyclists of all abilities with three distances. 75 miles of the Gran Fondo route was closed to thru traffic making it very popular amongst cyclists, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the scenic beauty the Sierra Nevada has to offer, without the distractions of everyday vehicle traffic.

Over 1,400 cyclists travelled to Mammoth Lakes which is 7,880 feet (2,401m) above sea level to participate for a long weekend, with over 750 opting to ride the 102 mile Gran Fondo with 6,643 (2,025m) of climbing and rest split between the 70 Medio Fondo and the 42 mile Piccolo Fondo

James Kinney from Piedmont was fastest, winning in 4:22:01 outsprinting breakaway companion Ethan Puente from Bakersfield on the finish line, with Brian Washburn taking third place 3 minutes behind.

Paige Handy (Serious Cycling) from Woodland Hills won the women’s Gran Fondo for the 3rd consecutive year in a row, in a time of 4:58:38, followed by Kelsey Andrist from Flagstaff in second 10 minutes behind, and Shelly Mos from Bakersfield in third place 40 minutes behind.

James Kinney and Paige Handy were fastest on the 102 mile Gran Fondo course

Keon Namazie from La Canada was fastest in the 70 mile Medio Fondo, finishing in a time of 3:23:37. In the women’s category Caroline Britton was fastest in a time of 3:31:34.

Josh Fairchilds won the 42 mile Piccolo Fondo in 2:18:02 and Leile Hijazi won the women’s category in a time of 2:47:48.

Afterwards, riders celebrated at the post-ride party at the vendor Village in Mammoth with complementary post-ride meal, Mammoth Brewing Company beer and live entertainment.

The 30th edition of the Mammoth Gran Fondo will take place on Saturday September 6th 2025.
