Challenge yourself to the competitive spirit of Levi's GranFondo and experience Sonoma County's world class roads and wine region at their best. Levi's GranFondo is part of an inspired Californian Cycling Culture that dates back more than 100 years in Sonoma County and celebrates 15 years of excellence in 2025.
Levi's GranFondo offers 7 routes for a wide range of fitness and ability levels. From a casual ride on relatively flat ground through Sonoama’s bucolic wine region to the highly competitive 139 mile monument.
There is the 11 mile Family route, 22 mile Piccolino, 40 mile Piccolino, 63 miles Medio Fondo, 81 mile Geysers, 120 mile Gran Fondo and of course the 139 mile Growler, the toughest route with over 12,000 feet of climbing and includes the torturous climb of King Ridge Road, the endless climbs on Stewarts Point Road and steep 13% gradients of The Geysers. Each one utterly full of wonder!
The 120 mile Gran Fondo, the biggest and most popular distance, a definitive cycling experience in northern California that mustn’t be missed. From the damp redwood forests at the base of King Ridge to the 360-degree panoramas at the top. And if you think the climbs are amazing, the descents back down to Sonoma will stay with you for the rest of your days!
Ahead of you is an unforgettable day’s cycling, with a mass start, full support on course and full emergency services. Several aid stations, each with whole foods as well as on-bike liquid and gel energy.
The Bear Growls Again
A monument for Sonoma County, the head of the bear symbolizes the ride, and will lead the charge for Levi's GranFondo next spring. Top Pro’s will tackle “The Growler” route ahead of the GranFondo. It’s a highly competitive 139 mile monument with over 12,000 feet of climbing for the second year.
The likes of a road race like this has not been seen in recent memory in the United States. The Growler has been compared to racing Liège-Bastogne-Liège or Il Lombardia by Leipheimer who knows the rugged route well and having trained in the area for over 20 years. The Growler route has been labelled "America's Toughest One Day Race".
Men and women will chase a rumoured bigger cash prize purse than last year (whooaa!) which will be split equally between the top five in the men and women’s categories.
The inaugural cash prize was an astonishing $50,000 USD raised by undisclosed sponsors and benefactors to guarantee the race attracted top professionals in its first year. With an even bigger prize purse next year, the Growler is sure to attract top professional gravel riders internationally, especially now Gravel racing has grown with the Gravel National Championships in most countries including the USA, Canada, UK, Belgium and Australia – the list goes on. Plus there’s the 3rd edition of the UCI Gravel World Series and UCI Gravel World Championships every autumn. This is bound to concrete The Growler as "America's Toughest One Day Race" and be a permanent fixture on top professional riders’ schedule every year, as well as amateurs too.
The race is open to anyone who wishes to compete and there is no requirement to qualify. Professional athletes will race head to head along with others, vying for a slice of a substantial cash purse! Anyone who races the Growler is eligible.
All participants who complete The Growler at Levi's GranFondo will earn themselves a unique, one-of-a-kind finisher’s award.
The inaugural edition of the Growler last year surpassed expectations, with an international field of top gravel riders in difficult wet conditions. Racers had to contend with a long course rife with endless punchy and muddy climbs.
In the women's race Lauren De Crescenzo attacked with some 80 miles to go and time trialled solo to the finish, some 12 minutes ahead of U.S. Gravel National Champion Lauren Stephens in second place, with Belgian Waffle Ride winner Sarah Sturm in third place.
In the men's race, SBT GRVL champion Keegan Swenson outsprinted former WordTour pro Belgian rider Lawrence Naesen in second, with 2016 Brabantse Pijl champion Petr Vakoc in third place.
The cycling festival kicks off with a huge Expo and packet pickup at the start on Friday April 18th. On Saturday rider staging opens at 7am with the race and ride starting at 8am. The family orientated festival opens at 10am with Live Music, Food, Beer with the Awards taking place at 3pm.
