Flying Start for Inaugural Bear Tam Fondo

2nd November, San Francisco, California.

Last weekend saw the running of the inaugural Bear Tam Fondo, apply named after Tamalpais Mountain, just north of the bay area.

The event, organised by the Trek Bear Development team, featured 73 miles around Tamalpais mountain.

The event billed as "a climber's delight".

Places were at a premium after it was announced days before the event that only 250 places were available.

These were snapped up very quickly.

Having made contact with professional rider, Ted King who took part, we can confirm that the ride was 113km or 70 miles and featured 2,119 metres or 7,000 feet of climbing which on paper, is indeed, pretty hilly.

The main climb of mount Tamalpais kicks in near the end of the ride and climbs over 600m or 2,000 feet.

Bear Development Team

The proceeds of the event go to support Trek's Bear Development Team

The team consists of several well known juniors in the Bay area, who have racked up some pretty impressive results:

Bryan Duke
Gabe Multer
Tobin Ortenblad
Matt Schaupp
Mackenzie Kelly
Sam Cerruti
Spence Peterson
Skyler Taylor
Alex "Bullshark" Howard
Griffen Easter
Maddie Ortenblad

Hence to say, in true fashion the guys and girls from the Trek development team opened up proceedings on the climbs - much to the delight of some of the riders who were really up to the challenge of spending the day with some top bike riders.

Chapeau to those who kept in the front groups with the development team!
