It offers cyclists the unique opportunity to traverse a challenging 100-kilometer (62 mile) course linked by 13 cultural attractions, including stunning rides through world-class institutions such as Hagley Museum & Gardens, Granogue and Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library.

The Brandywine Valley offers some of the best cycling terrain on the East Coast. The Delaware Gran Fondo will allow cyclists the rare privilege of passing through these attractions on the same ride.

Distances for all Abilities

The Medio Fondo is 60-kilometer (32-mile) route is less challenging than Gran Fondo but still some hilly terrain, but no timed climbs. Enjoy the police-escorted mass start from Rockford Park through Hagley Museum & Gardens & Winterthur Museum and Library.

There’s also the 15 mile Governor's Ride that will suit beginners and families.

The 2023 Gran Fondo was a SELL-OUT with riders from 19 states and five countries, including Australia, Canada and Great Britain as well as Florida, Colorado, Michigan, Texas and Illinois, participating in Delaware's premier ride.

All Fondo participants will receive a police escort to start and police support at key intersections. Rider welcome packet including a commemorative T-shirt, Swag Bag, USA Cycling rider insurance, course marking, fully-stocked rest stops featuring signature Delaware goodies (including Woodside Creamery ice cream for Gran Fondo), post-ride reception with catered cuisine by award-winning chef Robbie Jester (winner of American cooking shows “Pressure Cooker” and “Beat Bobby Flay”) and craft beer, raffle prizes, bike valet service at festivities and more!

Each Gran Fondo finisher will receive a medal at the finish line before enjoying the Post-Ride Reception in Rockford Park!

Come and Enjoy the Wilmington Grand Prix

The Wilmington Grand Prix is one of the Premier criterium-style bike races in the U.S., and returns for its 16th edition May 17-19, 2024 in Delaware. Winner in USA Today’s “10 Best Road Cycling Events in the U.S.”

The action starts Friday night (May 17) with the Monkey Hill Time Trial, a 3.2-mile race against the clock through Wilmington’s Brandywine Park. Saturday (May 18) will feature the Major Taylor Community Ride at 11am followed by men’s and women’s professional and amateur racing. Sunday (May 19) will see the return of the 11th Annual Governor’s Ride and the 11th Annual Delaware Gran Fondo.

The event is free and open to the public. All the activities and attractions are free. No cost for any of the children’s activities.
