The fourth edition of L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France is scheduled for September 6–7, 2025, and will be hosted once more by the city of Kranj, the capital of the Gorenjska region.
Starting Monday 11th November at 11am, registration for the Sunday race will open, heralding a new contest for the coveted Tour de France Yellow, Green, Polka Dot and White jerseys! We invite you to join the growing international community of amateur road cyclists and partake in this legendary event.
Immerse yourself in an exhilarating Tour de France experience, cycling on completely closed roads in the heart of the Slovenian Alps. The route promises a stunning yet demanding journey, featuring a significant ascent to Jamnik and passing through Podblica, the hometown of Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious). L’Etape Slovenia by Tour de France presents an exceptional challenge with over 2,000m of climbing.
The race village for the weekend long cycling festival is located at Slovenski trg in Kranj, where you can pick up your start packet and welcome bag. The race village hosts partners and exhibitors with the latest products, services and offer various activities, promotions and tastings to visitors and participants and their families.
Saturday is dedicated to socializing, with children and families at the heart of the activities. There is free cycling for the family with a group ride around the city of Kranj. The youngest cyclists and toddlers with balance bikes will have the opportunity to participate and ride an 800m route around the venue. Dare to challenge Matej Mohoric in a race against the clock with sprint ascent up Jelenov Hill in the city center of Kranj. Experience cycling across all-generations with outdoor activities embodying the spirit of Tour de France.
Sunday's 80km ride and 152km race enables you to enjoy a breath-taking Tour de France experience and ride on closed roads in surroundings of Kranj, the capital of the Slovenian Alps, with both routes, the ride and the race of L’Étape Slovenia offer you an amazing personal challenge.
During the race you’ll benefit from medical assistance, mechanical assistance, both stationary and mobile will be provided, including the feed stations. Participation in the official Sprint Challenge & KOM Challenge to compete to win the Tour de France Green Jersey & Polka Dot jersey and the overall Yellow jersey across a range of age categories. SAG wagon will provide transport to the finish line if, heaven forbid, you have to drop out.
At the finish line you’ll receive a finishers' medal, hearty meal, access to the Race Village, activities and entertainment, podium and big screen for the awards and your official results!
3rd Edition Sold Out
The third edition of L’Étape Slovenia by Tour de France, held last September, was a sell-out event with more than 1,200 recreational cyclists from 28 countries participating.
Cyclists journeyed from near and far including Australia, Canada, and Brazil, and there was a notable turnout from Slovenia’s European neighbours including Austria, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, and Croatia, in addition to hundreds of locals. Competitors engaged in either the 80km rode or 150km race.
The victor of the women’s overall yellow jersey for the 150km distance was local cyclist Laura Šimenc, and former professional cyclist, Austrian Johnny Hoogerland, who secured the fastest time for the men repeating his previous year’s triumph.
Matej Mohoric once again graced the event as ambassador, mingling with everyone in the peloton, offering encouragement, sharing the workload, and simply savouring the communal ride. A portion of the proceeds was donated to the Matej Mohoric Foundation, continuing its mission to nurture young cycling talents.
Participants in the 2024 L’Etape Slovenia Sunday ride and race rated the third edition of the event with an impressive average score of 9.1 out 10 in a survey afterwards.
Slovenia is "The New Top Destination for Cyclists"
Slovenia is taking a lead as the new top cycling destination for cycling according to Lonely Planet, with a huge investment in infrastructure on quiet roads, rolling trails and easy navigation.
It borders Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Croatia to the south and southeast, and a short coastline within the Adriatic Sea to the southwest, which is part of the Mediterranean sea. Slovenia is mostly mountainous and forested making it ideal for cycling.
Plan to arrive a few days before the start of your L’Etape adventure and book accommodation with one of the many providers in Gorenjska region.
The nearest International airport is Ljubljana Airport (LJU), in the capital of Slovenia, which is only 8km (5 miles) away.
Ljubljana Airport has over 14 regular airlines offering flights all over Europe to major connections hubs and beyond.
Getting to Kranj from Ljubljana Airport is a breeze, you can easily hop on a bus, grab a taxi or easily hire a car.
September is a great time to visit, just outside the peak holiday season which is usually from June to August. During this time, you can expect warm temperatures, with averages ranging from 17°C to 25°C with September being slightly cooler.

Last year’s event sold out, so participants need to consider entering earlier in the forthcoming season as it is likely to sell out in advance.
Sunday’s ride and race includes a free massage and hot meal afterwards.
Participants can also purchase an official L'Etape Slovenia cycling apparel when purchasing an entry.
