Moss and Evelyn win 2025 Australian National Gran Fondo Championships

Partivipants raced on a 13.6-kilometre circuit for the 2025 Steadyrack Gran Fondo National Championships.

They winded their way through the scenic twists and turns of Kings Park alongside the breathtaking waterfront views of the Swan River, and chargce into the heart of the downtown Perth all on fully closed roads. They felt the burn on the punchy climbs up William Street and Malcolm Street, which peaked out at just 400 metres before the finish line. The late pinches and the uphill drag within the park created a dynamic course, perfect for climbers, sprinters and puncheurs.

In the men's category Gwyn Evelyn won in a time of 1:57:37 with Laurelea Moss taking women's title in a time of 2:12:15.

Only Austrailian Cycling license holders were eligible to win a National Championship Title, Medal and Jersey, however unlicensed riders raced alongside.

Formula One star Valtteri Bottas showed he still has plenty of speed even on just two wheels as the Mercedes reserve driver lapped up the sights of Perth. Bottas took part in the 2025 SteadyRack Gran Fondo Championships as part of the Auscycling Road National Championships held in Perth over the weekend.

Having moved to a reserve driver role back at his old team Mercedes after being axed from Sauber at the end of the 2024 F1 season the 36-year-old showed he still hasn’t lost his appetite for racing finishing 19th out of the 80 riders in his 35-39 age group.

“Fun taking part in the Australian National Championships Gran Fondo race,” he said. “Great course and a good workout for @radlgrvl. It was nice to see hundreds of riders out there, and lots of support along the way! Ended up 19th at the finish line.”

Bottas finished just over five minutes off the lead in a time of 2:02:54.08 across his six 13.6km laps of the King’s Park course. The Finnish star has become an honorary Australian in recent years spending much of his off-season down under with his wife, Olympian Tiffany Cromwell, sporting a mullet and picking up Aussie slang.
