Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycling Challenge joins the UCI Gran Fondo World Series
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has announced that the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycling Challenge has joined the UCI Gran Fondo World Series
Launched in 2010, the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycling Challenge is the biggest cycling for all event in the Middle East: in 2015 it attracted more than 2000 participants.
The next edition of the event will take place on December 16th in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The start and finish of the 92km race will be at the Dubai Autodrome, with the predominately flat course expected to produce some fast racing. The first loop will lead the riders through the desert, while the second will pass alongside the Dubai Marina and the Emirates Hills community before heading back to the motorsports circuit.
In 2015, the organisers of the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycling Challenge also organised the Dubai Granfondo, which featured on the calendar of the UCI World Cycling Tour, replaced this season by the UCI Gran Fondo World Series.
The 2017 UCI Gran Fondo World Series started three weeks ago with the Poznan Bike Challenge in Poland (September 10-11) and the Amy’s Gran Fondo in Australia (September 11). The Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycling Challenge will be the third event on the calendar of the series, which will conclude with the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Albi, France.
The other events in the series serve as qualifiers for Albi: riders finishing in the first 25% of the ranking for their age category qualify for the World Championships, during which the UCI World Champions for each category will receive the prestigious rainbow jersey.
The full calendar for the 2017 UCI Gran Fondo World Series will be revealed shortly.
