Peter Sagan: Tom Boonen was my Childhood Idol
Peter Sagan and Tom's teammates make a portrait of the soon-to-be-retired champion
Peter Sagan said recently "Since I was a teenager, Boonen was the big rider of the cobbled classics. My oldest memory of Paris-Roubaix goes back to 2005, the year that Tom Boonen won it for the first time and became world champion in Madrid. I sat in front of the TV at home, shouting for Tom. He was my idol. "
"When I first started riding I did not know how to ride the cobbled classics. Tom Boonen was my role model at Liquigas. I never had a great leader before in a team but he was one. I would regularly ask him general questions about cycling. He is cool."
"One great thing I learnt from Tom is that his personality far outweighs his fame, his is easy going and talks to everyone around him."
Peter Sagan said if he can't win Roubaix this Sunday he would be very happy if Tom Boonen wins. "He deserves it. It would be a great culmination of his career."
One day left until Paris-Roubaix, can Tom Boonen win a fifth and final Roubaix?
Good luck Tom!
