The Tour of California visits the roads of the SLO GranFondo
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The 2017 Amgen Tour of California, America's most prestigious annual cycling event, will be contested on the roads of San Luis Obispo County for the fourth straight year in Stage 3 on Tuesday, May 16.
Offering a world class international field of men's professional teams in 2017, cyclists will race along one of the most scenic regions in California in Stage 3, beginning in Pismo Beach, riding through downtown San Luis Obispo and the heart of San Luis Obispo County, and ending in Morro Bay.
The 113-mile stage both begins and ends in the county — a huge boon because the race draws thousands of bicyclists, their families and fans to the stage’s starts and stops.
Experience the same roads at the SLO GranFondo in October 2017
The fourth edition of SLO GranFondo on October 28 & 29, 2017 is a classic annual fall cycling event, presented by VisitAvilaBeach.com, that features three routes of 100 miles, 61 miles and 25 miles all showcasing many of the same scenic roads as this year’s stage 3 of the Tour of California.
At the fall event, cyclists will be able to enjoy epic coastal and wine country vistas plus great fall cycling weather over rolling miles of clean open road.
The event weekend kicks off with the three timed rides on Saturday and the Race SLO Festival, including a Pro Panel with some of the top cyclists in the country, world renowned cycling personality Bob Roll and USA Cycling Chairman Bob Stapleton. The post-ride festival in Avila Beach offers the best of Central Coast cuisine with delicious BBQ, award winning craft beers, local wines and live music.
On Sunday, a limited amount of tickets are available for a new VIP Ride & Wine with Bob Roll and 2017 Pros at Sinor-Lavallee Winery. Tickets include the recovery ride beginning at 9:30am, Q&A session at Sinor-Lavallee, wine, food and an autographed bottle of wine + event collectible poster.
Traditional PINK jerseys go to all top male & female riders and the classic polka dot KOM jerseys goes to the King & Queen of the Mountain, a timed climb on the GranFondo route.
The SLO GranFondo is proud to again support a local charity: The Alpha Foundation.
