Known for his aggressive riding style and his affable, forthright and articulate manners in dealing with the public and media, Voigt was one of the best riders in the world, renown for being able to pull at the front of the peloton for hours at incredible power outputs and famous for his quotes, the most famous "Shut up legs! Do what I tell you to do!"
Since retiring, Voigt’s passion for cycling hasn’t diminished, he’s raised 100,000’s dollars for charities around the world. In January 2017, Voight completed an Everesting on Berlin's Teufelsberg, raising over ten of thousands dollars for Australia's Tour de Cure.
He's currently heading up NBC Sports Network's LIVE coverage of the 2018 Tour de France.
Named one of the Top U.S. Gran Fondos by Gran Fondo Guide, the fourth edition of the Jensie Gran Fondo starts and finishes at Stafford Lake Park in Novato, CA on Saturday, September 29, 2018 and is superbly organized.
The success of the event has been revitalized and strengthened even further, after it was announced it was joining the Gran Fondo National Series this year, an expanding series of 13 rides across the United States and Canada.
Voigt’s Gran Fondo has been very carefully designed to appeal to cyclists of all abilities, offering three really fun routes starting at Stafford Lake Park in Novato, which includes the “Breakaway” at 40 miles ride ideally suited to less experienced cyclists, the 70-mile “Presidential” ride for intermediate cyclists and the full on 100-mile “Shut Up Legs” ride for experienced cyclists.
Everyone will have the chance to meet and ride with beloved former pro, Jens Voigt throughout the day, before during and after the ride.
“I've always loved California, especially Marin County. What’s better to ride on than these roads? And now I don't even have to hurt myself in the breakaway anymore,” said Voigt. “I can’t wait to take to Marin’s best and most scenic roads, fuelled by the yummiest local food, and yell “Shut Up Legs!” all over the county.”
You’ll be treated to a Pro Tour level experience with neutral support along the way and before the ride. You’ll travel along the cycling friendly and quiet roads of Marin County, with notable views of Alpine Dam, Mount Tam, Stinson Beach, Bolinas, Point Reyes and Tomales Bay.
You’ll be kept fuelled up along the way with fully staffed and stocked feed stations including amazing food from Marin’s local food purveyors.
