Don’t miss the most unique cycling event in the USA, the Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride, back for its eight edition of pedaling perversity!
The most unique cycling event in the U.S. — the Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride (BWR) — now going into its eighth year of irreverence.
One of the Highlights of the Euro themed Classics on American soil will once again be hosted by the Lost Abbey Brewery on May 5th, 2019.
The three day festival features the CANYON BWR PURE CYCLING EXPO, which is FREE and open to all riders, their families, and the local cycling community on the Saturday and Sunday. There is also an additional Friday night VIP event at Canyon.

During and after, revellers enjoy the Belgian inspired ales of the Lost Abbey and a feast from Gear Grinder Grill. Finishers are treated to all sorts of culinary delights, delicious beverages, post-ride comforts from sponsors, and the elation that only an accomplishment like finishing the Canyon BWR can provide.
The 2018 edition saw Brian McCulloch outsprint Ted King and Larissa Connors dominate the women’s field. It also had more official entries than any other year and the course was probably the best yet, with 46 miles of dirt/pave sectors over 133 miles. The Wafer course had a record attendance of 512 starters on the 74-mile rocky route.
For the first time ever, the Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride will be offering a prize purse to the top three riders, both female and male, in support of what will be the deepest professional field ever assembled for the ‘Hell of the North (County).’

“We are really excited to continue our warm partnership with Canyon on our manic event,” said Michael Marckx, Monuments of Cycling CEO and BWR creator. The incredible excitement around Canyon’s presence in the U.S. and their tenure at the forefront of engineering, design and quality assurance in cycling, make them the perfect partner to take riders and the BWR to new extremes.”
Blair Clark, Canyon U.S. President said the following: “The Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride was an ideal event for Canyon to launch our ground-breaking Grail gravel bike last year. In the years to come, we look forward to showcasing how Canyon bikes are perfect for the back roads of San Diego, or whatever twisted courses your heart may take you. The BWR, or ‘Hell of the North County,’ is not just an extraordinary race. It’s a celebration of life and how much can be accomplished on a bike through the magical connections that develop between people who suffer together (s)mile after (s)mile.”
