Asheville to host Gran Fondo National Championship
Gran Fondo Asheville on July 21st, will host the one day competition where age group category winners will be crowned Gran Fondo National Champions
The Gran Fondo National Series is comprised of 10 European-style rides staged across the United States. Part personal challenge, part serious competition, the GFNS leads riders through country roads with challenging climbs and incredible scenery on some of the most beautiful courses in North America. In 2018, the Gran Fondo National Series nearly tripled the number of riders taking part as the new format gains popularity.
There are two ways to take part in the competitive part, the one day race and the series competition.
One Day Championship
GFNS hosts the annual Gran Fondo National Championship, a one-day competition, using the same format to determine winners of the USA Gran Fondo National Championship. Participation is open to all riders and no qualification is required.
Gran Fondo Asheville on July 21st 2019 will host the championship this year.
Winners of the 100 mile Gran Fondo route at this event will be crowned Gran Fondo National Champion, across each age group category.

Series Championship and Ranking
In addition there is the Gran Fondo National Championship Series competition, which is comprised of a riders best three finishes across any of the series events.
Gran Fondo Asheville which hosts the one-day Gran Fondo National Championship counts as one of the events in the series.
At each event, a rider's points equal their placing in that event. 1st place gets one point, 2nd place gets 2 points….37th place gets 37 points. Your series ranking is determined by adding the three lowest scores together. Say a rider finishes 3rd at one event, 8th at another event, and 1st in their last event; the rider’s series score would be 12; (3+8+1=12).
If you participate in more than three events your worst score will be dropped and only your best three finishes will be calculated towards your overall ranking. The rider with the lowest score will be crowned Gran Fondo National Championship Series, across each age group category.
Each Gran Fondo National Championship Series winner will receive a custom winner’s kit from DNA Cycling and 1 free entry to any 3-day Haute Route event in the United States.
