Tadej Pogacar conquers Mt. Baldy and takes over the race lead
SlovenianTadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) takes over race lead on Queen stage
Tejay van Garderen (EF-Education First) cracked with 4.0 kms to go on the upper steeper slopes of Mount Baldy.
He joined Gianni Moscon (Team Ineos) who has already lost contact with the race leaders.
Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck-QuickStep) dropped van Garderen but also lost contact, blowing his own chances.
It was Higuita who attacked and got a good gap, behind, Bennett, Porte chased Pogacar chased.
Porte suffered a slight mechanical, but it as Pogacar who countered and the other couldn't respond.
Pogacar caught Higuita in the final kilometre, Higuita overcooked the last bend and Pogacar came past and took the stage win and the Leader's jersey.
A dejected Tejay van Garderen finished over a minute down, losing the race lead and dropping to 9th place
Pogacar leads Higuita by 16 seconds and Asgreen by 20.
