2,700 participants complete the tour around the lake at the Cyclotour du Leman
The Gran Fondo World Tour Series latest stop was in Switzerland for the first time with a new permanent destination
The rain respected participants and they were able to complete the 176 km of the tour around Lake Leman, a mainly flat route with few uphills, crossing Lausanne, Montreux, Evian, Thonon and Geneva.
Each cyclist can choose different distances including a full loop of more than 100 miles, and then secondary distances from Evian to Lausanne or Geneva to Lausanne where a well furnished arrival line vilage awaited participants at the lake shore and offered them good food and beverage recovery.
Lausanne, a cultural and historical city, is home to the International Olympic Comitee, and several other worldwide organizations, a very good destination to mix cycling, culture and a Gran Fondo; a very bike friendly city too.
Cyclotour du Leman is a very well organized event, lead by Christian Jean, and motivated staff who take care of participants on crossroads and hospitality zones, to ensure the most succesful gran fondo event in Switzerland organized by Association Cyclotour du Leman.
The two current leaders of the 2019 Gran Fondo World Tour ® Series overall ranking, Celine Scharer and Stephane Cognet, ride together in the lead peloton, as it is a non-competitive event that awarded 1,100 points for all participants who completed full loop distance route.
The 2019 Gran Fondo World Tour ® Series now enters a crazy weeks schedule with 3 events non stop, the Giant Seorak Gran Fondo, the La Ciclobrava Sea Otter by Continental and Ghost, and the Gran Fondo Kazakhstan - Tour of Zhetysu, moving Gran Fondo participants across two continents and establishing a clear schedule for the top 5 who will compete for an overall prize pot of $36,000 USD!
