Australia’s New Favourite UCI Gran Fondo Returns in 2020
Brisbane makes its mark on the world stage, with an 120km inner-city closed road course
After an outpouring of support following the inaugural event in 2019, the Tour de Brisbane will again hit the streets of Brisbane on Sunday 5 April 2020.
As in 2019, the 2020 Tour de Brisbane will host a UCI Gran Fondo World Series Qualifier, with hopefuls setting their sights on the 2020 Gran Fondo World Championships in Whistler, Canada.
The Tour de Brisbane will mark the final event of the Brisbane Cycling Festival, a 24-day program from 12 March – 5 April. The Festival is also hosting the Cycling Australia Track National Championships and Six Day Cycling World Final, as well as a suite of new activities promising to keep spectators on the edge of their seat.
Race Director Mike Crawley says his team is motivated and ready to take the event to new heights in 2020.
“The 2019 Tour de Brisbane was an overwhelming success, with riders still getting in touch with us to rave about the course.”
“The enhanced and expanded course will be launched in early August; we plan to take riders places that have never seen a bike, well not legally!”.
The course will again start and finish in the heart of the city at South Bank on the Brisbane River, and this year offers four distances – a family friendly 8km ride, a 30km Piccolo, a 60km Medio, and a 120km UCI Gran Fondo World Series Qualifier and recreational ride.
The Tour de Brisbane not only offers riders a picturesque ride through some of Brisbane’s most iconic landmarks, but also promotes safe cycling through its partnership with the Amy Gillett Foundation.
Every entry for the ride comes with a personal Amy Gillett Foundation fundraising page to support safer cycling.
Entries have recently opened, with riders entered before 30 August receiving a limited-edition Free Tour de Brisbane Jersey.
