Groot and Barrow shine on fully closed roads of Amy's Gran Fondo
The 9th edition of the Amy's Granfondo was a big success with a lot of riders enjoying the scenic roads and climbs of the Colac Otway and final finish along the Great Ocean Road and Surf Coast
Chilly temperatures at the start and rain in the finish, did not deter 3,500 riders taking part trying to beat their times from last year, challenge their friends or just have a good time on their bike. Apart from the Gran Fondo, there was a shorter Medio Fondo, a Family Fondo and new this year a Gravel Fondo.
Male 35-39 age group appeared to be the fastest category with finally Aaron Groot outsprinting 7 other riders in Lorne to be the fastest on the day. Damien Bovalino and Elar Kalda joined him on the podium in an average speed of 39.4 km/h
The fastest female on the new 130km course was Justine Barrow (F40-44) in an average speed of 37.0 km/h. She was more than 5 minutes faster than Kathryn Woolston (F50-54) and Katie Banerjee (F45-49) who both won their respective age groups.
