UCI Gran Fondo World Series confirms further postponements and cancellations in 2020
As public health restrictions and travel bans come into force worldwide, more Gran Fondo World Series events are postponed or cancelled in 2020. The UCI are also reconsidering the qualification regulations for ongoing events
With the COVID-19 virus taking over daily life across the globe, the UCI Gran Fondo World Series has seen a lot of changes and event organizers are following public health guideline with their cycling federation and local authorities to try and postpone and reschedule their events.
Some have also decided to skip 2020 altogether and focus directly on 2021.
The Cyprus Granfondo, Tour de Bintan and Tour de Brisbane had already been cancelled on their scheduled dates (March - to early April) and are looking at options to move their events to a later date. Cyprus Granfondo will cancel their 2020 event and reschedule to spring 2021.
In the past few days, the organizers of La Bourgogne Cyclo, UCI Granfondo Troy, Schleck Granfondo, Granfondo Rio de Janeiro, Greek Granfondo, Coast to Coast Costa Rica, Tour of Cambridgeshire and Granfondo Suisse have announced postponements. The UCI Granfondo Troy, Swiss Granfondo and Coast to Coast Costa Rica have cancelled 2020 event to focus directly on 2021.
The others are in touch with their local authorities and national cycling federations, with a view to rescheduling their events later on in the year.
Most events from June onwards have not been postponed yet, however they are looking at alternative dates in the summer or autumn, in case it's necessary.Around Samcheok (Korea) had been postponed and rescheduled for July 4-5 2020.
The UCI is reconsiders the qualification regulations for the ongoing events in 2020.
