Max Schachmann run off the road by old lady coming back from the shops, finishes 7th - after fracturing collarbone!
Dramatic day at the Il Lombardia momument in Italy. With 50 kms to go a group of seven riders including George Bennett, Fuglsang, Vlasov, Evenepoel, Ciccone, Nibali and Mollema were left after the top of the Muro di Sormano.
Nibali, known for his descending skills who trains in the area, went full gas on the descent, after around 10 kms of descending, in harrowing pictures Remco Evenpoel was seen crashing over the side of a bridge into a deep reveen.
After 10 minutes of racing, news came over race radio "Remco is conscious", soon after video was aired of Remco being put into an ambulance.
His team Quickstep thanked everyone for their concern and asked people not to speculate on his condition.
Deceuninck-QuickStep said later "Unfortunately, the X-rays showed a fractured pelvis and a right lung contusion, which will keep Evenepoel – a winner of four stage races this season – on the sidelines for the upcoming period. Our rider will remain in the hospital overnight under observation, before flying on Sunday to Belgium".
The descent of the Sormano is known as one of the fastest and most technical on the professional circuit. In the 2017 edition of Il Lombardia, several riders crashed into a ravine on a different part of the descent. Jan Bakelants, Laurens de Plus, Simone Petilli and Daniel Martinez were all injured in the crash in 2017.

Max Schachmann run off the road by old lady coming back from the shops!
In the run into the finish, Max Schachmann was blindsided by an old lady who was coming back from the shops. At least she stopped and said sorry. That wouldn't happen in LA or London.
Luckily Schachmann re-mounted and finished 7th, afterwards doctors revealed he fractured his collarbone.
