National Champion Jerseys awarded during UCI Gran Fondo Australia

With a series of national championships run over the different categories and disciplines last week, the city of Ballarat (AUS) hosted the first successful event in the 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Series this season

The time trials on Wednesday were run on a local circuit that had to be done three times by the different participants for a total distance of 23.6km.

Grant Stubbs (M45-49) scored the fastest overall time in the men's age groups to win his age category and the title. Grant rode the full distance in an average speed of 39.7 km/h, 21 seconds faster than Michael Gallagher (M40-44) and Darren Lever (M45-49).

Fastest female over all categories was Anna Davis (W55-59), a multiple and reigning World Champion in the discipline, beating a lot of her younger opponents. Anna rode the 23.6km in an average speed of 34.4 km/h on the undulating course. Second female overall was Erin Bertram (W35-39) while Kathryn Woolston rode the third fastest overall female time to win her W50-54 national title.

In the Granfondo on Saturday over 5 laps and 58km on the University course, the different age groups started with a 2 minute interval.

Tom Leaper (M45-49) rode the fastest time by winning the fastest age group, finishing solo and take the national jersey. Michael Gallagher rode the second fastest time to win his M40-44 age group in a sprint before Kym Lynch for the overall third fastest time.

The female age groups started together with their male colleagues of the same age. Eline Smit (W19-34) proved to be the fastest lady of the day while Kathryn Woolston was the overall second of all ladies winning her W50-54 age group. Miranda Griffiths, the new W40-44 champion rode the third time.
