Ellie Parry and Benjamin McDonough win UCI Tour de Brisbane
With starts in downtown Brisbane at Gregory Terrace and a scenic 110km Gran Fondo through the city, the 2022 Tour de Brisbane finally hosted a large peloton again two years after the pandemic
Riders started in intervals of 5 minutes per age group with the M19-34 age group scoring the fastest overall times.
Benjamin McDonough won the men's race in a sprint ahead of Kevin Biffiger second and Connor Erasmus third.
All females started together at 7am, Ellie Parry (F19-34) winning the race ahead of Katie Bannerjee (F45-49) second and Nicky Rolls (F50-54) third.
The average speed of both winners was 38.8 and 36.3 km/h respectively.
The event also hosted the time trial on Saturday in nearby Rosewood for the first time, Mark Croonen and Anne Elliott were the fastest.
The 2022 Gran Fondo World Championships will take place in Trento, Italy from September 15 to 18, 2022.
Amateur cyclists wishing to participate must qualify at one of the 28 races on the UCI Gran Fondo World Series calendar by finishing in the top 20% of their age group category.
