Bruce Bird fastest at 2023 Hincapie Gran Fondo Chattanooga
Multiple UCI Gran Fondo World Champion, Canadian Bruce Bird, aged 54, won his second Hincapie Gran Fondo in Chattanooga, TN
Over 900 riders enjoyed a lovely day in the southern Appalachian Mountains at the Hincapie Gran Fondo Chattanooga, hosted by well-known ex-professional rider George Hincapie.
Bird adds the Chattanooga event to his palmarès after previously winning the Hincapie Gran Fondo Greenville last October.
The event had three distances for all abilities; 10, 55 and 77 miles.
In the 77 mile Gran Fondo, Canadian Bird was fastest in a time of 3h 18h just ahead of Bradley Cobb from GA and local cyclist Austin Sullivan.
Incredibly, in fourth place, 15 year-old Enzo Hincapie (last year’s winner) beat his father George Hincapie and friends including ex-pors Bobby Julich and Christian Vande Velde.
In the women's race Amy Phillips from Chattanooga was fastest in a time of 3h 39m, ahead of Sarah Scheutter in second and Jacqueline Green in third place.
Yamid Retropo and Lizzie Nyitray were fastest in the 55 mile Medio Fondo.
