A fantastic performance, Frenchman Artus Jaladeau (OFC Team Legend Wheels), was the first to reach the top of Col de Joux Plane in 4h 31m 28s ahead Swiss rider Dimitri Bussard and Frenchman Damien Jeanjean, who was second in the Marmotte Granfondo last weekend.
Jaladeau said afterwards, "I have no words. Winning this 14th stage of the Tour de France is very special. It is one of the biggest cyclos in the world and I am obviously very happy to win it”.
In the women's race, three-time Olympic champion and eleven-time world speed skating champion from the Czech Republic Martina Sablikova was fastest in a time of 5h 19m 39s ahead of French lady Oceane Mahe and French lady Camille Udny.
Sablikova said afterwards, "It was a really very difficult day with the heat and relief, but I love this region and the public was great with me by encouraging me in all the climbs".
The course followed the same route as stage 14 of the 2023 Tour de France, starting in Annemasse and finishing in Morzine featuring the climbs of the Col de Saxel, Col de Cou, Col de Feu, Col de la Ramaz and Col de Joux Plane over 152km route with 4,100 metres of climbing.
It was a very hot day up to 32C and riders were seen drenching themselves in fountains and streams along the route and locals hoses to keep cool.
Thousands of local came out to cheer on the riders who travelled from all over the world to participate.
In the pro race, Spain's Carlos Rodriguez won stage 14 to Morzine as Vingegaard kept the Yellow Jersey in the Tour de France. Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard fought off a ferocious attack from Tadej Pogacar on the Col du Joux Plane.
