Slovenian Matej Mohoric wins UCI Gravel World Championships
Mohoric took the win by 45 seconds over the Belgian, ahead of last year's winner Florian Vermeersch with Conner Swift coming home 3:40 back
After 90 km of racing of six riders consisting of Matej Mohoric, Florian Vermeersch, Connor Swift , Paul Voss, Alejandro Valverde and Cameron Mason went clear,
This was whittled down to three riders Connor Swift, Matej Mohoric and last year's winner Florian Vermeersch.
Swift was on the right side of the crucial split as three riders went clear to contest the podium places.
Swift was able to limit his losses well and set a tempo for the final 25km, after becoming distanced on the steep ramps of the Viglio climb. Matej Mohoric (Slovenia) forged onwards, edging clear of Florian Vermeersch (Belgium), with the pair going on to take the top two spots,holding off a chasing group led by Alejandro Valverde (Spain).
Alejandro Valverde finished at the foot of the podium, while Wout Van Aert managed to take 8th place despite his numerous setbacks at the start of the race.
