Northern France to host first four stages of the 2025 Tour de France

The 2025 Grand Departe will start in Lille on July 5th, 2025, followed by three more stages in the Hauts-de-France region

Northern France to host first four stages of the 2025 Tour de France

Its the fifth time that the northern part of France gets to kick-off the biggest cycling race in the world!

After three Grand Départs abroad, the 112th edition starts in France. Last summer, the Tour de France started in the Spanish city of Bilbao, and the year before that, it was the Danish capital Copenhagen's turn. It was previously announced that the Italian city of Florence will host the start of next year's Tour. With the Olympic Games being held in Paris, La Grande Boucle 2024 will finish in Nice.

Tour de France 2025: Stage 1- Lille to Lille (185 km)

The first stage starts and finishes in Lille and is one for the sprinters. Despite three fourth category climbs, including the Côte de Notre-Dame-de-Lorette (1 km 7.6 percent), the Kasselberg (1.9 km, 3.5 percent) and the Mont Noir (1.3 km, 6.4 percent), the first stage of 185 km poses little difficulty, so a mass sprint will most likely determine the first yellow jersey.

Tour de France 2025: Stage 2 - Lauwin-Planque to Boulogne-sur-Mer (209 km)

The second 209 km stage is more challenging with four climbs, better suited to punchuers. The final 20 km, features the Côte du Haut Pichot (1 km at 10 percent), the Côte de Saint-Étienne-au-Mont (900 m at 11 percent) and the Côte d'Outreau (800 meters at 8.8 percent). The undulating terrain could see punchers drop the pure sprinters. The stage starts in Lauwin-Planque and finishes in the town of Boulogne-Sur-Mer.

Tour de France 2025: Stage 3 - Valenciennes to Dunkirk (172 km)

The 173 km third stage starts in Valenciennes and includes the Kasselberg climb, howeever it is expected to end in a bunch sprint since the climb is the only obstacle of the day and finishes in the streets of Dunkirk.

Tour de France 2025: Stage 4 - Amiens to who knows?

The fourth stage starts in the city of Amiens in Northern France. Dylan Groenewegen won on the streets of Amiens 7 years ago, beating André Greipel and Fernando Gaviria in a bunch sprint. The climbs and location of the finish line at the end of the stage are not yet known.

Before 2025, the peloton of course has their eyes set on the 2024 Tour de France, whose route was revealed in Paris at the end of October.

The 2024 Tour de France will get underway in Florence, with the first three stages taking place in Italy before the race enters France for the first time on stage 4.
