Route for 2024 La Vuelta announced in Madrid
Starting in Portugal’s capital Lisbon on August 17 with a 12-kilometer time trial, there will be two more stages in Portugal before the race hits Spain
The 2024 La Vuelta will start on August 17th in Portugal and will finish in Madrid on September 8th. It will be the fifth time the race has started outside of Spain.
The 79th edition covers 3,261 km over 21 days of racing which contains 13 mountain stages, 9 mountain top finishes and 8 flatter stages.
The first three stages are hosted in Portugal with the opening individual time trial in front of roaring city crowds on a flat route between Lisbon and coastal town Oeiras. Stage 2 then travels north from Cascais to Ourem, while stage 3 starts in Lousa to finish in Castello Branco.
La Vuelta returns to home soil on the fourth day of action.
There are two time-trials: the last in Madrid, which is a 21 km course that could decide the overall winner, just like the 2024 Tour de France.
