Cedeno and Otero fastest at GFNY Republica Dominicana 2024
The Caribbean island offered ideal racing conditions at the fourth edition
Punta Cana hosted the fourth edition of GFNY Republica Dominicana last weekend. The Gran Fondo was 149.7 km with an elevation gain of 962 m.
Under perfect weather conditions, 600 riders started off fast at BlueMall Punta Cana. Right from the gun, a group of 40 riders formed the breakaway including defending champion Noel Reyes.
By the end of the hilly section after 80 km, the breakaway was reduced to ojust ten riders. After a string of attacks it was Daniel Cedeño (Republica Dominicana) who got away with ten km to go. He took the solo win in 3h 33m 45s, almost a minute ahead of Johnatan Ospina (Colombia) in second and Fraylin Bierd (Republica Dominicana) who completed the podium after a close sprint behind.
In the women's race, 2023 GFNY North America champ Erialis Otero (Puerto Rico) won in a time of 3h 38m 9s, a minute ahead of Flor Espiritusanto (Republica Dominicana) in second and Juana Fernandez (Republica Dominicana) in third place after a close sprint against Maria Gonzalez (Chile).
Next up on the GFNY calendar is the sixth edition of GFNY Punta del Este which will take place this Sunday, March 17, 2024.
