2024 UCI Gravel Championship Race Course Revealed
The elite women tackle 133 kilometres on Saturday, October 5th, and the elite men tackle 179 kilometres on Sunday, October 6th
Starting in Halle, which is just sourth of the capital Brussels in Belgium, competitors will ride through the Forests of Brabant which is a network of forests and green spaces throughout Flemish Brabant, characterized by its tall trees, worn and sunken roads, and heathlands.
The region is a true paradise for those who love gravel roads, forests and tough climbs.
The route follows a short 10km loop to the northwest and then traverse 80km for a first pass through the finish area at Leuven. The course tackles some 1,000 meters (3,280ft) of pitchy climbs.
Depending on the age category, riders will conclude with one or two more local laps in Leuven.
Approximately 61% of the path is gravel, cobblestones and unpaved surfaces.
Last year Kasia Niewiadoma (Poland) was crowned the elite women’s champion after 140km of racing and Matej Mohoric (Slovenia) as the elite men’s champion on a 169km course.
For the elite race, national cycling federations are given 20 spaces for their best men and women riders.
Leuven is easy to reach. From neighbouring countries, a train takes you straight to the heart of the city in about 2.5 hours. Brussels’ national airport (Zaventem) is just 15 minutes’ train ride away.
