Cromwell and van Dyk fastest at UCI Swartberg 100
Around 400 cyclists took part in South Africa UCI qualifying race near Prince Albert, in the Western Cape
The route was a Great Karoo experience, first heading out to the east of Prince Albert over farm lands a combination of gravel road and remote farm track. It then re-entered the town for a little exploration and then headed out west on a gentle downward sloping, remote gravel roads with spectacular views of the Swartberg mountain range and the Groot Karoo basin. The farm routes took rider into the Swartberg foothills with some stunning scenery.
The Gran Fondo distance was 170 km with 2,900m of climbing. Jaco VAN DYK was fastest in a time of 5h 43m 1s ahead of Marco JOUBERT in second 1s behind and Wessel BOTHA 1m 43s behind in third place.
Tiffany CROMWELL was fastest in a time of 6h 13m 18s ahead of Robyn DE GROOT in scond 14 minutes behind and Layla SCHWELLNUS 33 minutes behind in third place.
The Medio Fondo was 85 km with 1,700m of climbing. In the Medio Fondo, Rassie SMIT was fastest in a time of 3h 23m 14s and Nicolle WEIR was fastest for the women in a time of 3h 44m 37s.
Riders finishing in the top 25% in their age and gender category have automatically qualified to participate in the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships taking place in Belgium.
