Sarah Max and Finn Mitchell fastest at Sold-Out Gorge Gravel Grinder

Over 1,000 cyclists took part on tougher new courses in Oregon’s Gorge and Cascade Mountains

Gorge Gravel was the perfect early spring event for beginners to seasoned gravel gurus with stunning view of Mt. Hood.

Big Gravel this year was increased 100 miles with 8,300 feet of climbing. Medium 65 miles and 5,200 feet of climbing and Small 45 miles and 3,500 feet of climbing.

Luckily the weather was mild dry. Chicken was on hand to remind riders to take the “Hell or Heberlein” route rather than “Chickening Out”!

Pro-Elite Men and Women were vying for the top podium places this year - keeping motivation high!

The race started with a gentle rollout through the beautiful Dufur Valley on paved roads before turning off onto Rail Hollow and the start of the gravel.   This year there were three brand-new spicy sections to help make the race more competitive; Heberlein, Wrentham Cutoff, and Upper Eight Mile descent provided short but decisive sections for the Big Gravel riders.

The dreaded Endersby Climb was reversed with riders climbing the back side up to the timing finish to make sure and it zapped every last of participants strength and energy.

In the Medio Gravel Fondo, Zachariah Winter won the men’s race in a time of 3:13:53 and Laura Rosema won the women’s race in a time of 3:49:23 and Mark Amor            won the non-Binary category in a time of 4h 58m 6s.
