Raim and Ebras win 43rd UCI Tartu Rattaralli in Estonia
The Tartu Rattaralli is one of the oldest cycling events in Estonia. The Granfondo was fought over 126km.
Mihkel Räim won a tight sprint finish ahead of Alo Jakin, who finished second, they attacked just five kilometers before the finish.
“I thought my attack would be controlling, but it turned out that the rest of the peloton were out of gas, so Alo attacked and managed to break away. We worked together and had to solo all the way to the finish, as two cyclists started to chase. I knew I was better in the sprint, so I risked leaving it to the finish,” Räim explained.
“When Mihkel attacked in Ülenurme, I had already been thinking about where to attack for a long time and knew from experience that it was a good moment to follow,” commented Jakin who finished second.
Mihkel Räim (Ferei Quick-Panda) completed the Granfondo in 2h 39m 28s, while third-placed Lauri Tamm was only three seconds behind the pair.
In the women's category, Elisabeth Ebras (UAE Development Team), was fastest in a time of 2h 41m 32s, beating Lithuanian Akvile Gedraityte by one second in bunch sprint. Polish rider Tamara Szalinska also lost to the winner by just one second, taking third place.
“It’s very satisfying to win at home,” said Ebras, “The goal was to stay within the main group during the race to be in the best possible position at the end, and I succeeded,” added the ladies winner.
