Magnus Cort wins foggy finale atop the Col de la Loge at Dauphine

Magnus Cort (Uno-X Pro Cycling Team) won stage 2 of Criterium du Dauphine 2024 ahead of Primoz Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Matteo Jorgenson (Team Visma-Lease a Bike)

The second day of racing at the Critérium du Dauphiné headed to the hills on Monday, with the final 20 kilometres of the stage taking on two categorised climbs and a drag uphill to the line. Potentially too hard for the strong climbing sprinters and too easy for any GC gaps, there was an intrigue as to how the stage would play out amongst the peloton. A fast start eventually saw a break of five going clear.

The optimists of the day were Bruno Armirail (Decathlon-AG2R-La Mondiale Team), Mathis le Berre (Arkea – B&B Hotels), Jonas Gregaard (Lotto-Dstny), Xandro Meurisse (Alpecin-Deceuninck), and Filippo Conca (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team).

The break of five rode strongly and it meant the pace was high going onto the climbs in the closing 20 kilometres, which dramatically reduced the bunch.  Last man from the breakaway Armirail was caught agonisingly in sight of the line.

Uno-X rider Magnus Cort launched an attack and powered past Armirail to take the stage victory.

Cort took the stage victory ahead of Primoz Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Matteo Jorgenson (Team Visma-Lease a Bike). Cort is the new leader of Criterium du Dauphine 2024 before tomorrow’s stage 3.
