Austin and Cutter fastest at the Takelma Gravel Grinder
Amazing day this past Saturday at the Takelma Gravel Grinder hosted by Seven Feathers Casino Resort
Seven Feathers Casino Resort, nestled among tall Douglas firs and pine trees, in Canyonville, Oregon, is where the Takelma Gravel Grinder was hosted.
Participants had the unique thrill of riding out of the casino to takle a 57-mile bold ride with 55% gravel passing farm and ranch landscapes along the South Umpqua River to Chief Miwaleta Park.
During the ride, participants benefitted from aid stations with electrolyte drinks and nutrition. Bike support was on the course, as well as SAG vehicles.
“We like to suffer,” said Steve Brower, who traveled from Bend to take part in the ride which makes cyclists climb more than 6,000 feet through the route.
“It’s nice to get away for a couple of hours,” added Wayne Lewis, also of Bend.
Austen Davis (Adventure Squad) was fastest in a time of 2:38:53 almost breaking the course record for the men held by Stefano Barberi in 2:37:51 in 2022. Austen was on point and Adventure Squad Strong! Broc Atkinson (Flywheel Bicycle Solutions) was second 3 and half minutes behind. Jake Johansen (Sponsor me) was third 11 minutes behind.
In the women's category, Kristi Cutter was fastst in a time of 3:19:02 beating Kim Ely by just 22 seconds with Jennie Phillips in third place 2 minutes behind.
Non-Binary champion was Kylee Rhood in a time of 3:31:09.
Upon completion, riders showered and relaxed at the Squatchee Fest, enjoying food and beverages from the Seven Feathers Food Truck, compliments of the race organizers.
If you have not been to southern Oregon for this event, put it on your 2025 calendar!
