Event Series includes the 2025 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships in Frederick, MD on September 14 at Gran Fondo Maryland
Founded in 2012 by event director Reuben Kline, the Gran Fondo National Series is the largest and most competitive series of gran fondo cycling events in the United States. Registration for the six Series-owned events is open, along with registration for the 2025 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships (GFNats). View event calendar.
Gran Fondo Nationals Series pioneered the time-segment competition format in the United States and organizes the official USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships. Qualified athletes have the opportunity to compete for a coveted Stars and Stripes USA Cycling National Championships jersey!
Suarez Cycling Apparel continues as the Series title sponsor. The 2025 Series will be officially referred to as the SUAREZ Gran Fondo National Series, as has been the case for the past three seasons. The Colombian apparel brand produces the event-specific jerseys for all riders who register at least 26 days before each event, custom winner’s cycling kits for Gran Route age-group champions at all Series events, and a commemorative jersey for US Gran Fondo National Championships event participants.
Series events have three courses to suit all abilities of cyclists: a Gran Route (approx. 100 miles, 4 timed sections), a Medio Route (approx. 60 miles, 3 timed sections) and a Piccolo Route (approx. 30 miles, 2 timed sections). Competitive riders can race for overall victory and age group podiums for men and women, based on cumulative time across timed sections. There is also a team competition, won by the combined time of a team’s fastest three riders. Bonus seconds are awarded for additional team members who finish, meaning there’s a benefit to bringing a larger team. Between timed sections, riders can pace themselves and enjoy the view, relax, stop at feed stations, regroup with friends, and connect with new friends.
No racing license is required to participate in Series events; however, riders who qualify for and attend the National Championships event must have a USAC racing license. Event-support includes fully stocked aid stations and SAG support. Riders are welcomed back to the finish with a healthy meal and congratulatory beer, plus chances to win valuable prizes!
Each Series event features a raffle with more than $5,000 of prizes from Series sponsors, and ALL riders are eligible to win. Prizes from Series sponsors have included a Wahoo trainer, a holiday for 2 at Garda Bike Hotel in Italy, an Industry Nine wheelset, components from Cane Creek, Swiftwick socks, Shimano products, Lazer helmets, as well as other prizes from Series partners.
